Camshaft sensor - that is odd, my wife's 2003MY Polo with the 1.4 16V 75PS engine throws out that code now and again - and I thought that I'd read that its only the 8V engine that actually has a camshaft sensor - now it seems that that info might have been wrong. Interestingly, I've not seen any referance to one for this engine in Haynes or the parts list. What is your engine code, what was the part number and how much did it cost and how much to fit?
As for you maybe having to pay a lot of money for this work, with the credit crunch hitting the car sales, it seems that the task of generating cash has been passed to the service departments - and that probably means £90+ for a hour's work!
Sorry I can't help with costs, but I'd reckon that labour will be £90+. This still does not answer my question as to why my wife's car throws out camshaft position error codes when it does not have a cam shaft poition sensor. But I'm glad that what you have found confirms the theory that these engines do not have a cam shaft sensor fitted.
