I have just bought a 54 plate lcr. I'm looking at getting a decent set up on it before the summer, got the nurburgring etc coming up. Where do i start? suspension is totally standard. I was thinking of the ap coilovers but open to other set up tips on other parts of the car

Front role bar?
Rear role bar?
Front wheel spacers?
Rear wheel spacers?
Anything else?
What tyres suit this car?

As it stands the car has a hybrid turbo, with full miltek exhaust, this is decated. Would it be quicker with a race cat? I've heard turbos can work better with a bit of back pressure? Its got an uprated intercooler and also a cone filter. Is a smoothed standard air box better with a panel filter? Cone filter seems to get hot you see. Any help much appreciated.

cheers

Just fitted my ap coilovers to my LCR, they have made the car so much more responsive in my opinion. The back end seems more planted and the car certainly rolls less.

I think to get the best out of the LCR you need a front and rear uprated ARB as well though. Coupled with the coilovers or a good shock spring combo it would be on rails!

rite great cheers for that information. Do you know if the air box off an ibiza 1.8 20v turbo(cupra) is the same as on the lcr 225? Still got one of these in the loft from years ago.

doubt it; the maf is a different size. the bottom of the airbox might be the same but the top will definitely be different

I wouldn't bother with front spacers.
Change the Dog Bone mount for an uprated one. Change your wish bone bushes for new/uprated ones.
Change the front ARB to an R32 23mm one and the rear to 28mm Neuspeed one set to mid point. This all fitted with a S3 strutt brace and 4 wheel aligment will allow you to enjoy Nurburg ring without changing the OEM suspension. Then you can save up for and investigate a good suspension set up.
But would also look into good discs, pads and fluid and good tyres

What brake disc do people use on the front on the standard brembo calipers?

Bill at Badger 5 does 2 piece 330mm AP discs with caliper spacers for ~£560 iirc..
I would advise this though, my 1-piece discs warped when used on track!

Induction-wise I'd go for an uprated panel filter over the cone for heat reasons as you say. However, I wouldn't drill or smooth as you will end up with higher air temps entering the engine.

Willie, Danny - those 2-piece disks are quite a bit more expensive than 1-piece - around double the price?

yea, they are around double the price (the reason I don't have a set yet); but when it comes to replacing them, you keep the bells and adaptors and only need to purchase new rotors so the cost of replacement it reasonable. The advantages are worth the expense:
less unsprung weight
better heat dissapation
higher resistance to warping

Sounds good if the replacement cost isn't overly expensive then...

I think I might well replace with these when my current discs have worn down and get some DS2500s at the same time. It looks like I'm in for a bit of a wait though as I have had new discs and pads on the car for a year and they almost look new, and still got a spare set of brembo pads laying about to use up.

take it on a track day..this will speed up the process ;)

I know you already know this but make sure its the inside disc/pad you are checking for wear not the outside as the inside ones contact the disc first this is the side that wears most.

To the OP: Tyre-wise - Is there any chance that you can stick some semi-slicks on the car once you get to the track as that would give you 30 seconds or so per lap :)
