Drove home for about 20 seconds before then the car went dead. It will not start now at all just keep turning.

The message on the dashboard sometimes appears saying "engine fault workshop needed" what does this mean?

Also a orange rope flashes on the dashboard. Which I have looked up to be a engine fault.

In the book it says glow plug system engine fault.

1) Can anybody help will these be covered by the warranty?

2) Is this an easy job to fix?

3) Should I be worried?

Please please let me know!

The light on the dash is the glow plug light by the sounds of it.

If the car is still under warranty then it should be covered but what's wrong with it I don't really know.

The glow plug light can be a fault with the particulate filter but this shouldn't cause the engine to not start. Does the tank have plenty of the correct fuel in it (not petrol by any chance)?

no it has diesel in it. Put new diesel on it since sunday and have done nearly 200 miles since then.

It was ok then when I slow down just cut out and wont start up again.

Got the car into SEAT today. They 1st came to say it was a dodgy wire. After a bit they came out with some diesel in a glass and are stating its been contaminated. I know that I have not put any petrol in there. They aint quite saying its petrol but it has been contaminated.

Then they bought out another glass of someone elses diesel. The other one did smell stronger and was a little bit clearer but nothing else.

Anyway they are going to flush the diesel out my car and put new diesel in there. And if the car starts then they are going to put it down to this. They said it wont be covered by the warranty if this is the case.

Feel like I been robbed if this is the case how can my diesel be contaminated. They said I would have to take it up with TESCO who I fill up with every 2 weeks.

I just hope it does not come down to that and its something else.

**UPDATE**

They did the flush and put new diesel in the car wont start. Still not managed to start it now. Rang me just before 6pm they advise they are concetrating on the main relay and if this is the problem they would look to get it done on the warranty as its a very big job apparently. So feeling even worse then I did before..

Hi

I've had what I think the same problem I think with mine, except my SEAT dealer were honest enough not to rob me. Mine cut out randomly whilst I was driving and then it was all completely dead. On mine it turned out to be a relay that was loose apparently, they put it back in but it cut out again a few days after. They then replaced the relay and it's been good since.

Terminal 30 or 50 relay on the relay plate under the dash.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead,

I have the same problem with my 1.9tdi, engine randomly cuts off without warning or anything. Everything else still works fine (lights, fan, dash, etc) just as if nothing happened, except for the lights on the dash you get when you turn ignition on to position 2 (handbrake, battery, airbag, etc)
The engine doesnt start again for another 20 minutes or so. It keeps turning over but not start and no fault codes which is very frustrating.
Any ideas on what I should look at first? already checked alternator, ground points and fuses, they are all good.
Thank you

If I look for the relays can I inspect them visually or do I have to change them and see if it works?

Hi, try this... Open the bonnet, find the black pipe that runs at the top of the engine towards the back. I think it's the air pipe, you will need a monkey wrench to loosen the bracket to free the pipe. Get some 'easy start' and spray it into the pipe, and try to start it. NOTE, Spray it and crank it at the same time.. Spray the 'easy start' into the pipe that disappears under the engine not the one that runs to the air box. The car should start to cough and will start, it will make a nasty sound once started. Sound will last about 5 seconds.

If it does start up, it's either a faulty injector, or the fuel pump...

I have had the same fault with my car. I changed the fuel pump to a more upgrades one and now the car is spot on.

Hope it helps

Hi Aamri, thanks for your help. I will try it this week.
So I will run it, wait for it to turn itself off and try starting it with easy start.
I would've expected a faulty injector or pump to show some fault codes? That's why I was a bit confused. But I will try it and let you know how it goes.

Thanks for your help!

Hi buddy, if you get the diagnostic machine it won't tell you anything.. Only solution is to try easy start first, it took me about 5 months to finally get the problem fixed. I changed all the fuel filter, injectors, checked all the wiring and still broke down. So changed the fuel pump and car has been spot on since.

If you do go for the injectors first try speaking to seat dealer, I know they seat Leon's 2005 - 2008 had the injector recalls so worth giving them a try.

Cheers
