thanks mate, would be a real help, i just can't believe it happened, going so well till it snapped :S...

the MOT guys will be wondering how the mileage went up by 50k in a year lol...its my grandads mate that runs the garage so ill explain what happened lol, you never know it may be fixed by then.

does anyones know if the eeprom from mk3's will work?

why dont you just note down your mileage using the new one... so everytime you jott it down it's X amount take away 54k for example? and explain that to the MOT people? Espec. if you know the guy...

haha yeah it would!!

that would be brilliant mate, just pm when you find something and ill cover the costs for it all, i might be able to drive down to collect instead of postage as brums not to far from me :)
just remember i dont mind which clocks they are, they dont have to be the gti ones ;)...i only need the eeprom......but if they have the rev counter and are silver AND have 40-50k its a bonus! :p

thats what im doing, for know, but i cba to do it forever lol,
just rather have the right mileage there right infront of me all working fine and dandy lol

so is downloading songs off Limewire :p ... I'm sure you do that? VAG COM maybe? I have that on my PC for some odd reason. but no lead lol

It works like a dealer service tool would do. It's not illegal to use as long as you don't do anything illegal like clocking your car. As long as all you do is connect it up and set your milage to what yours was originally it will be fine. It plugs into your OBDll port which is below your steering wheel to the left of the fuses. It should work otherwise they wouldn't be selling it saying it did. But it might require some technical skills to set it up right but generally it should just be a plug it in install the software and reset the new clocks which you have installed. VAG-COM or VCDS won't do the job.

haha limewire's old and not powerful enough :p....i have other means of getting hold of music ;)

i think they're only illegal if you don't tell your new owner that you "have changed mileage" :p

i won't have a new owner for my car, im keeping it forever ;)...track day car!! :D

thanks mate, do you think the one's on ebay would work fine then? bearing in mind my car is a 1996 cls...
do you need to pay for the software or does it come with the cables?

forever?! Mate you're gonna have to pass it on one day :p or that wouldn't be fair! ha

haha well i'm keeping it till i get a new car, then decide from their, convert to track day or hand it down to my annoying little brother lol, i suppose i could con him! :p

Take your own risk with the ebay ones.... I got vag-com off ebay and it works fine. As long as you have a good knowledge of computers it should be fine. http://www.51vag.com/tacho-eprom-programmer-version-p-51.html is the genuine one but i don't know where you'd get it in the uk. But most ebay ones should work fine and you won't have to wait for american shipping times. Software should come with the cable.

how much did you pay for you vag-com cable? i have a fair bit of knowledge about computers and that shouldnt be a problem...alot of the ebay listings talk about getting the pin number etc for the car...whats that all about?

Vag-com cable i paid about £14 for but if you want the full version you need to buy a license for £50. But the vag-com cable will not work with vag-tacho you need the tacho cable itself. The one you linked earlier looks like it should do the job you want fine and comes with software and drivers. Getting the code for the car is the immobilizer code. I dont know if your car even has an immobilizer though being the cls.

when I took my car into a garage before xmas, they said that there was a LOT of wires around the ingition or somewhere when they were trying to work out why my car wouldnt start. (Turned out to be the Dizzie). But - my car has an immob. apparently. Don't know about yours Arun? Didn't know until they told me...

There's also a Foxguard alarm in it too, I haven't got the fob mind. but there's A pillar sensors, and LED under the rear window heater switch and an alarm box on the bulkhead.

im not sure about the immobiliser, ill nhave to find out....i have no alarm lol, not privileged enough :p

strange how I did though, with it being 95/96 too. Think it's months older than yours though... It would've been an option surely 14 years ago? Would've loved to have seen the brochures for our cars hehe. I have a 95 - 98 Passat one my dad had, pretty awesome really!
