Hi guys, quick question: What tips have you got for securing the cage for a new headunit after removing the aura?

I have fitted 2 stereos now (didn't like the look of the 1st one) and neither of the cages seem to hold in very well.
The only tabs that seem to have anything to hold onto are the side ones but once the stereo is in they seem to slowly give up and the it starts to come free.

I am going to remove the stereo and try bending the tabs a bit better and maybe jam something in the gaps(?) to see if that helps. Any ideas/experience most welcome.

Cheers

I can bend the top and bottom tabs a bit before they hit the plastic runners but they dont seem to be able to grip anything. I can bend them round the fascia adapter ok but then the adapter then just slides out with the stereo because its not held in the dash...

Had a similar issue.

Problem is all the plastic in the aperture, which restricts the tabs.

I got mine in as far as, and the only thing that seemed to happen as they whole stereo (dash adapter inc.) would move a few mm forward over time.

Just one of those things unfortunately I think

Managed to sort it.

Used a screwdriver and twisted it in the gaps left by the tabs to really bend them right round. Managed to get a lot of leverage and now the tabs are holding nice and tight.

I also took all the mounting bits off the back of the stereo (bolt, rubber end cap, etc) and made sure all the cables were pushed out the way.

Fits like a dream now!

Trying to fit an alpine cage at the moment- doesnt see to want to go the last half a centimetre- any tips to forcing it in without breaking it! Thanks

Problem sorted by shaving some plastic off the inners before putting the cage in, this allowed the cage to be fitted without forcing it in.
The sound quality from the new alpine HU is terrific, even with the standard speakers.
Just one problem, I cant switch the stereo on now without the keys in the ignition (I have done the yellow red wire swap).
Finally are there any guides on here to replace the speakers.

do a search for the speaker changing and the only way to turn it on and off without key would be to wire it permanently on,then it wouldnt work with key

Are you sure you got the red and yellow round the right way? You'll need to take whichever colour is permanant and wire it to both red AND yellow on the stereo. Not something i'd want to do because i'd forget and leave it on!

One of the feeds must be permanant otherwise it would lose your presets.

Oh and yes the cage is a very poor fit, mine is barely held in but the whole lot is pretty nug so it manages to stay in.
