I would recommend the FR170 tdi with a remap, it pulls really well in all gears and puts a smile on my face. It spins the front wheels in the dry in 2nd gear even with TC on. Mine is only up to 205bhp and you can go higher if you like but it's the torque that makes such a difference.

I obvioulsy can't comment on the difference between a 170 and your car the what I will say is the 170 is a cracking car imo.

LOL I love it the way everyone says if you can spin the tyres then it must be a great car. I can get the tyres to light up in my gf's micra but I wouldn't call that a good thing... IMHO when you have a powerful car it's revs you crave not lazy torque.

Stop being pedantic, I was merely explaining how much the power had increased since the remap.

In my opinion torque is much more impressive than a high rev sewing machine

best get a tractor then... oh you already have ;) (joke!)

In all seriousness though, people only buy derv's for the economy they offer. Do you really prefer the small power band of the TDI, wouldn't you prefer something sporting like the straight-6 from the E46 M3?

unfortunately its not always what people prefer but what they can afford. I know a bit unfair...

I take your point completely, I went for the diesel version as I do a lot of miles and want an engine that will last and also something which is fairly economical. The Leon suits my needs perfectly and with a remap the spread of power is better.

I don't need to change gear as often as I would with a petrol though as it will pull in most gears from very low revs :p

high revers are always much more fun to rag round a track than high torque machines.

People only get erections these days about high torque because cars are so fat and heavy.

But anyway these days you dont have to choose. There are high revving, high torque petrol cars out there, they come equipped with a turbo ;)

as for pulling from low revs, modern petrol turbo engines have upto 80% of max torque available from as little as 1900rpm.

Calm down ladies, calm down...

Everyone has their reasons for driving what they do, if money wasn't an option I would gladly swap cars with muffin but I couldn't justify the £1000 a year or more just in fuel, which lets face it is a decent holiday!

In my humble opinion the TDI FR is the best of both worlds as you can get decent MPG and also have a LOT of fun and surprise a few boy racers!

I feel for you but you know the reasons why your selling and you know they are good
