The power does drop off around 3500 even in a remaped car, but the power loss is not as significant as it is withought the map. There is a post of a dyno run on the forum for a bluefin remap if you find this you will see what i mean, enjoy the car as it is alot better mapped than standard.
That a interesting comment 3.5k power drop off -mine is around 4k who's map have you got?? [ it pulls like a train to 5k]

The problem with the little VXR is it's not very good at putting it's power on the road. Handling wise a modded TDi FR could beat a Corsa VXR or maybe even a modded VXR. Straight line there's not much competition the Corsa would be quicker, but it wouldn't be as clear cut as some of you think.

This will probably cause some contoversy, but mine has pulled away from a Astra VXR. All be it on a shortish road im sure on top end he would of had me.

The guy was probably just in the wrong gear or something... FR TDi wouldn't hold a candle to an Astra VXR.

I only recently changed my Corsa VXR to the Leon FR 170. Having driven both cars, I can tell you that the FR is one quick car and is up there with the rest of the hot hatches in my opinion. Economy spot on as well

Hello dekFR, thankyou for posting, regarding this discussion. It's nice to hear from someone that has driven both, and can provide a direct comparison. :)

Although the FR is rapid, on paper the VauxhallS (now including the Astra VXR as that's also been mentioned) are secondS quicker than the diesel FR.

However, performance aside, you have so much more 'street cred' driving the FR, with people less likely to laugh at you when driving down the road. ;) ....................I LOVE MY FR!!

I didnt mean a race from a standing start i would have no chance. But from 30-60 i was at least keeping even. By the way i do have 322lb-ft at my disposal.

Just to add my 2 cents. I have taken a corsa VXR no problem. Dont get me wrong off the lights it kills you in 1st gear as the FR has such a short first. But by the time you get 2nd and drop 3rd, my car was 1 maybe 1 1/2 car lengths in front. Im running 235bhp 368lbs. Grin factor ....... ALWAYS :p

ps.....if its wet, both cars have major issues putting the power down through the front wheels. Spinning in 3rd is never good for the tyres.

How did you manage that? I have stage 1 and have 221bhp and 340lbs torque

i have never had the opportunity to find out but from what i have heard about those wee Corsa's... it would be no contest. Power to weight alone would see the Corsa off into the distance. I struggled to stick with a 106 gti... :(

The little VXR's are indeed pretty quick. I used to own a Artic one (no 412 IIRC) and it was a hoot to drive although the popping and banging (not to mention the body roll) got boring very quickly. They are also only quick off the line, once in 4th the intial pull seems to have gone replaced with a quick but not massively rapid acceleration (its hard to describe but I assume its something to do with the overboost).

In terms of straight line speed I had no trouble keeping up with a non-artic VXR in a BMW 123D (2.0L Twin turbo 204BHP diesel), whilst the BMW is much more linear than the (remapped) FR I would imagine once rolling there wouldn't be much in it (although the BMW would be quicker to 60 thanks to the turbo setup and RWD).

But anyway as others have already said the best way to make rapid pace in a normal diesel (again the 123D is outside of this) is by using the torque rather than chasing the absolute BHP.

The 123D really is an odd car (engine), it pulls like a 6 cylinder petrol (ie very linear with no tail off in power) however it is constrained by the diesel gearing, I never really got on with it as its linear feeling really made you feel like you weren't driving a diesel (the thrust of torque is masked when accelerating).

To the original post there aint that much in it tbh from my findings this morning. My 58 FR TDI is stock currently needs servicing and i noticed i had the air conditioning on and coming onto the motorway from 0mph i kept up with the lil corsa getting closer to it in second gear and then the corsa pulling slightly when i was in 3rd and 4th until the leon pulled a lot of it back up to near legal speed in 5th and 6th. Unfortunately the guy in the Corsa must have been a nutter as when i slowed back down to 80 he shot off doing what must have been a corsa VXR's top speed. I always think when this happens they got scared at least :). (He probably thinking i don't wanna see what it will do 50-70) I think remapped, driven properly, a Leon FR TDI will give a stock VXR driver a twitchy bum. ;)

22.5k for that corsa???!!! WTF, yeah it probably is quick but i would rather buy a cupra for that money and have change left over for a map etc..i love my fr (diesel) as i do a lot of miles for work and it has much more class than a corsa vxr.

oh and the dash of bluefin makes all the difference...:D
