Even if i did drive with a lead foot my FR TDi would have returned 380 miles.

5000 miles ago, it will be due it's big service at 40k after another 5k. Might just skip seat and take it to a VAG-com then send the bill to seat if anythings up.

if someone has stuck to the book it will be in serious need of air and fuel filters (change at 20K and ignore SEAT) get them changed and see how it goes from there, best of luck

It's got full seat service history. Do you think seat's servicing is a waste of time?

no it's not a waste of time but all manufactures like sheep have a mania for long service intervals with one eye on fleet sales and who cares what it costs to run just don't break down during warranty thats the same mentality that gives stupidly long cambelt intervals('till it costsTHEM money) just don't expect filters to last 40K p.s my petrol SKODA is supposed to do 18K or two years on it's original oil "sir" (like F***) oh and as I tend to keep cars change the gearbox oil at abput 20K

As has been said, if you have problems change the filters, all 3 of them, oil, plugs & leads if required (obviously the last 2 only apply to petrol engines). It's cheap & quick, if it doesn't solve the problem is gives you the best fighting chance of solving it without complications.

With a different & unlikely thought, could you have a minor fuel leak somewhere in the fuel line & being down on power is caused by a lower fuel pressure?

jesus mine does 190miles off £20 and thats running 240bhp!
on a steady run get 55mpg.

the the filters changed and oil. a good service should free stuff up a bit but if its still in warrenty then it aint right.

It's going in to seat on the 1st sept. Thing is I've only had the car for 2 months and it was last serviced 5000 miles ago. I bought the car from a seat dealer and it's only 2 years old. If it is just needing a good sevice then why should I fork out the cash when I bought the car from seat 2 months ago? Shouldn't the warrenty cover all these problems?

realistically no unfortunately the warrenty wont, cause the phrase that the stealers are going to hide behind is wear and tear and generally use,

You do have a good case however to go back to the dealer you bought it from and knock some heads, if its an "approved used car" then they are supposed to have done a 102 point check which does check those things (in theory) and after all of 2 months its in need of new filters they somebody aint done their job properly

Dont expect them to roll over, they will fob you off with any excuse, it took me 2 months of aggro and in the end i had to block off the entrance of their forcourt with the car before they finally gave me what i wanted.

They were meant to give the car a full service and a full tank of fuel which I never got! Yes they are aproved dealers.

Since your car was an approved used car demand to see the health check report from when they handed the car over, it should then state their findings when they were preparing the car for collection.

If your dealer is worth his salt, he should fix the car & refund your rolling road run (that will require a bit of pushing but you should get it.)

If you have no joy find a VAG group specialist and get them to check the car over, they'll generally be alot more honest then the dealer will if you find a good one (check on here for recommended ones)

where you from mate, i get mine serviced every 10k at mj motors in birstall 2 of the mechanics are fully seat trained and they are pretty good always look after me anyways

id say you definately have a problem though i get 45-50 miles to a fiver 120 to a tenner usually 200-220 for twenty quid, on a full tank i get over 600 mile if i drive steady or 400 if i totally hammer it everywhere, my worst mpg is 38 and the best is 75-81mpg and ive got the same engine mate

Daft question, but have you checked your tyre pressures recently ? I've you got low pressures anywhere, that can have a serious effect on MPG.

The benefit of knowing an enthusiastic (& hopefully knowledgeable) owner with vag-com is that you have time on your hands, and you can log the outputs of numerous sensors to try and spot a problem. For example, fuel & coolant temps, airflow, boost pressure etc.
VAG-COM (or VCDS as it's now called) provides you with all the same facilities as the computers that Seat will use, however I suspect all they'll do is plug in and look for fault codes, and that's it - if none are found, there's nothing wrong.... Some problems aren't "severe" enough, in the ECU's eyes anyway, to flag a fault - yet can cause problems with running. That's when you need someone who knows what they are doing to investigate.

I'm also wondering if the figures from the RR are correct. From what you say, it seems to be pulling well enough, and the wording of your first post does make you wonder whether the tuning company are using their rollers correctly.

Have you got a copy of the RR results ?

Would be interesting to see the shape of the curve, that may give some clues.

The fuel economy definitely sounds very wrong though !

Yes I have a copy of the rolling road results but would need to scan it first and I dont have a scanner. I guess I could go to an Internet cafe and use theirs if they can do that.

myself from 30-31psi as the abs kept kicking in on light breaking over small bumps.

Is that not enough air and would that be enough to put my mpg down by half of what most of you guys are getting out of your PD's?

Lower pressures certainly won't help MPG, but I doubt it would have anywhere near that much effect.

Might have an influence on RR results though - as the front tyres have two contact patches on the rollers instead of one when on the road, which presumably means more drag, the advice I've always followed is to make sure you've plenty of air in front tyres for a RR run.

The rolling road corrects the drag to work out the correct power through transmittion loss so it should pick this drag through the tires too.
