Lifespan of shocks

So, How long would a set of shocks last if I decided to upgrade. The car's lifetime do you think?

OEM ones are feeling rough at 10k, and usually totally shagged by 30-40k

I'd expect the same from aftermarket ones too (maybe not rough at 10k though)
