Today I went and check the air filter. What a surprise to see the state of it. The car has only done 16000 ...So I got a new one. Cant wait for 30K or 40K service. I think air filters should be changed every 10K...

That looks about normal to be honest, I bought a K&N Panel Filter they only need to be cleaned every 40,000 miles or so, and even at that they only need to be washed with a certain cleaner and oil then put back in for another 40,000 miles.
Only cost about £36 as opposed to £15 every 10,000 for a paper panel filter.

I must admit to not being convinced by K&N filters, I'd much prefer changing an OEM filter more often.

I do mine every 10k miles.

The paper one is only for a tenner and YES its worth changing every 10K. I even sprayed some carb cleaner in the air into the throttle housing. The car felt move responsive this morning :)
Whats next...maybe I will lose the spare wheel as that will get rid of some weight!!!!

is it a genuine filter at euro car parts because that is a bargain although i put a green filter in and couldn't believe how much difference it made
