If either of them are black, go for that one... both look awesome in black...

Can't give an unbiased opinion as never tried the VW, I would say I average around 30mpg in mine assuming chug the petrol half and half on town driving and motorway driving.

I've got high 30s if doing a motorway stint and mid 20s if its predominantly round town driving. If you start thrashing the car (MK roundabouts being best example), prob looking closer towards the 20mpg end!!

What do people reckon is 0-60 time of a stage 1 remapped LC?

Wouldnt get excited about 4wd, is does nothing for the handling of a car except increase weight, grip from a standing start will be good though. One thing with the vw is that the engine note sounds good, but then you will pay for this with increased weight from the engine sat up front, its a fairly heavy engine which could compromise handling. Id go try them both and see what your happy with, thats what counts, but dont think 4wd makes a great handing car.:)

4WD is 150kg.. thats alot ! Thats two fat passengers in your car who never leaves ;)
this is very true.

i bought a leon cupra 4 because i spent a year in norway and the 4wd really came in handy
now that i'm back home, all it does is use more fuel :(

i want some snow so i can make use of it!

On the plus side, the 4WD weight is carried very low, and a lot of it is distributed along the length of the car, so it's not quite so bad. Given the choice between 150kg like that, or 100kg in the passenger seat, I would probably take the 150kg. It's where the weight is that's most important

Drive both you'll know after that!
I'd have both, no screw that I'd have a new GTR now that corners quick, and has the POWER!!!

Gah! So fed up of people who say "you'd might as well buy as S3" or whatever. No, because we clearly don't want an S3, else we'd have bought one. Why did anyone buy a Cupra? Why didn't you buy an Octavia VRS?

keep your pants on there sailorboy, I was replying to this fella who wanted to put a tuned 1.8T onto a 4WD Leon body. so.. +/- same as S3.

No, but that's exactly the same point! I suggested that I'd like a 4WD LCR, to which everyone says "buy an S3", or I'd like the R32 engine in a Leon, to which the reply comes "buy an R32".

a) I like Leons, especially the LCR; they look amazing if nothing else
b) I don't like A/S3s, they look boring and there's too many on the road
c) I don't actually rate the looks of the R32 either

Personally, if I had the money that Buch appears to, I'd make my LCR 4WD and as powerful as I could, but I would not buy an S3, and I'd not buy an R32. That said, for someone like the OP who clearly would consider a Golf, there's no reason why I wouldn't recommend he tries the Golf option

It's not a dig at you turbin, it's just that after a while of loads of people saying "why don't you buy an S3" it starts to grate.

Anyway, going way off topic again here

It's quite a tough decision. If it was a Cupra R I'd definitely say go with that but at the 180 the Golf probably looks like the better option.

Having said that I think the golf is also the more obvious boring option too as there are too many on the road as it is.

Had the same problem myself, ended up going for the Cupra R :)

For me it was the mpg that put me off, wouldn't have been able to afford the petrol. I liked the style of both tbh the 4 motion that i looked at had the 25th anniversary body kit on it or something like that. Looked really smart and the v6 engine note sounds great.

The other option was the R32, but that was a little out of my budget lol.
