Leon Cupra or VW Golf V6 4Motion

I'd take the 4motion over the leon, for the interior (especially if it has those leather recaros!) and the 4wd. Who ever said you don't need 4wd until 300+bhp is talking out their big gaping a$$. Well, I suppose that's partly true, if you've got RWD as standard. But obviously the leons and co do not. The Focus RS may be a slight exception to this, but that's not perfect either, and was only not 4wd because ford were too pikey to research and fit new drive system. Or rather, they didn't want it to affect the price of the car too much.

If you were planning on tuning, and weren't fussed about the interior, get the Cupra. Or save a few quid more and get the Cupra R for big power fun! No idea what the prices are though. if the 4motion is already cheaper than the Cupra (assuming all else being relatively equal) I'd probably take the Golf. But then, the Cupra is certainly better looking from the outside.

But then the golf has a nicer interior.

But then the Cupra is cheaper to run.

The Cupra is also easier to tune.

But, I don't think I've made this any easier for you... :)

Actually, scrap it all. Follow the advice already given. Drive both, see which plus points of each car you like most and weight it up like that. If you don't drive very fast then the 4wd may be a complete waste of time for you, but then again wheel spinning out of corners and junctions might be the bane of your life, so suck em and see I think is the best course of action!

-I'm not even bothered to explain why because you seems like the kind of guy that just will never understand logic.

Yes, you are indeed correct. I laugh in the face of logic and reason. For I have idiocy and spiritualism.

For my next project I'm going to swap the front wheels for bicycle tyres. They should prevent all wheel spins, and allow exiting corners at maximum velocity! If you don't understand how, well you're too much of a cretin for me to explain it to you.

Thank you for all the advice to date.

I have been surprised at the good response I have received and apologise for the bits of bickering I have caused!

The advice/information I received from this site was a lot more informative and unbiased you might say from the same thread I posted on the Club GTI website!

Quick update, I decided to go for the Cupra.

However, I turned the Golf down and then had my offer for the Cupra rejected!

Looks like it is back to Autotrader, pistonheads, ebay etc

Thanks again and I will get back with any further updates.

Don't apologise, no need we all thrive on banter here and everyone has their opinion.
It would be boring without it.
Sorry you missed out on the LC, there will be others, I looked for 8 months and missed some good ones but ended up with a fantastic example. No regrets.
Good choice by the way:D

But, apparantly FWD isn't a problem until at least 1000bhp.

I think theres enough 300bhp+ FWD cars on this forum so id agree with you. You dont need 4wd until at least  450bhp;)
Of course if you cant drive and use the pedal like a button .....

My A$$ is actually small and non gapeing but i cant speak for the other BT owners.

If the Op finds an early cupra it will have a better interior than the golf.:)

I'm not saying you CAN'T have massive power and fwd. But it's night and day different to RWD and 4WD. You can't put the power down, you pull out slowly from junctions, trying to corner and power out is a joke. Power just can't be utilised fully with FWD. It's just so inferior for real driving and high power it's not even funny.

That's not to say, given the choice Id have 200bhp over 500BHP because of excess. Feck no, I'd take the 500bhp FWD anytime!

The initial point was you don't need 4WD until past 300BHP. Well, if you're gonna get pedantic, you don't NEED 4wd full stop. But it's certainly a shitton more useful and worthwhile with anything getting near the 200BHP+ mark. I had my leon long enough to know you just can't get off the line, and cover corners, like other cars. Even bumpy roads unsettle it a lot if you're giving it some.

it's not though. the leon's interior is straight from the A3, which has a better interior than the golf imo

try using less throttle and better tyres?

Well that is your opinion... and i was expressing mine

Got fk452's on the front.... when pulling off on a busy roundabout etc you have to use a bit of power....and in the wet you do get a bit of wheel spin....

Opinions are like arseholes...

The golf GTI I was in was better than my cupra R. Better cup holders, nicer plastics and the whole centre console is slightly angled towards the driver. Something oddly lacking in the Seat.

The Leon IS a direct lift from the old A3. But, they use much cheaper plastics, and remove the in dash computer which both the golf and A3 get in some form. Not to mention other things like the centre arm rest, sunglasses holder etc etc.

Cupra is hands down better looking though. The 4motion is just a bit meh to look at.

I have a controller in the car that will turn the map down in 1st and 2nd effectively reducing torque if i really want to get off the line. But you only use the power the traction can take (as with any car) via your foot. Its mapped to be drivable.
