ISO Wiring...

Hi People, I've recently bought an 53 Plate Ibiza and wanted a CD player with a "line-in". I'm not fussed about millions of wattage etc so bought a cheap and cheerful Sendai unit from Halfrauds. Now do I need to buy an adapter to get it wired up? I've put CD players in cars before and am not a complete numpty. What I'm really looking for is a wiring diagram for the original stereo and then I can just move the pins around in the wiring harness that came with the stereo. Can anyone help?

The stereo currently fitted is the "Alana" model

If your new stereo is wired with ISO plugs then there should be no major re-wiring.

The only thing most people need to swap is the permenant and ignition live wires cos the radio loses its pre-set memories.

So are these 2 wires already in the 2 block connectors and we need to move them to quite the aftermarket radio?

I thought they should pretty much just push together but this isn't the case, the wires in from the car go into different positions in the connector block. I think there were a few more pins in the connector block from the car that were connected to wire than the corresponding connector block going to the CD player, hmm, I'll have another look in a sec and take notes.

If you look at the loom on the new stereo - the two that might need swapping are joined with bullets.

They are usually red and yellow.

Correct - the alana head unit has some functions that the new one wont have.

Speed pulse wire to increase and decrease volume with speed

Lighting wire - so the stereo light brightness goes up and down with the dash

Diagnostic wire - so the dealers can fault find through the diagnostic port on the car

So It would be normal for only 3 wires to be connected from the CD player to the car? I just had a look and it seems as though I have I have Battery 12v +, Ignition and ground. I take it the blue wire from the CD player is for an amp?

Sounds about right for the power block.
Yes - there is generally a 12v trigger for amps or a cd or a powered ariel.

Then you have 8 wires for the speakers in the other block.

All in and working now. The only odd thing is that I can't turn it on unless the ignition is on?

Thats normal on some aftermarket units.

Just check that it is holding its radio stations - if not, then you have ign and permanent live the wrong way round.

Yeah it's holding stations, I had already switched the two live wires over, cheers.

Hey, just been looking through this thread to see this is the same problem i am having with my headunit.

I tried swapping the wires over so it would save radio stations etc, but just blew the corrosponding fuse in the car (not the headunit itself).

Any ideas as to what might be the problem? could it be earthing itself somehow?
