I have to eat my words. I filled my car today it took 52 litres since the last fill so I calculated the MPG and guess what 44.6 !!! The dash is obviously lying, is there any way of calibrating it? Im not that bothered but just out of curiosity I wouldnt mind knowing how to set it accurate?

In any case that kind of economy is not to be sniffed at :)

you could try reset your trip computer on the dash by holding the reset im guessing you have already done this ?? if not message me n ill tell u how to do it :)

did replacing your cam and followers make a big difference with regards to power ? my cars now done 150k and im considering doing it ?

In a word no!

It has made it slightly quieter, it was only in the early stages of wear, you would have been pushed to notice without removing the cam cover and actually looking at it! 2 lobes had worn a bit and the followers have got circular wear patterns on them. I am a bit pedantic so I actually checked it as part of a major service, if they were to fail big style it would have knocked really loud and total failure of the followers could rip off your cam belt or worse in an extreme case. :-o

I had just bought the car when I noticed so I am still a bit pissed off about it being worn. It has a full SEAT service history and 54K should be nowt for a VAG diesel ! Must be crap followers/cam fitted, there is lots of speculation on the web about what exactly causes the wear. People tell me it is usually golf 150's that go and it is rare for a SEAT. My advice at high milage would be to check as I did because the followers will jack to account for the wear so you might not hear until the failiure is critical.

My only increase in perfomance so far was a new coolant temp sensor, it cost £14 it fixed a lot of issues, lumpy idle, no top end etc. If yours is black in colour replace it! It will be the best and cheapest upgrade you ever make. :)

I have just ordered a THS decat for mine because the front pipe is making a wierd grating noise. Will report back how that goes! Im not expecting miracles in terms of performance but I've heard the turbo will cut in sooner.

im doing my clutch and flywheel tomorrow lol so when i get 5 ill take the cover off how much did the cam cost ?also i havent replaced my temp sensor yet so mite do tht aswell

Better question would be how much would you get to a tank. With careful driving I saw 540miles and that was with some blast in between. If I was more careful I could have squeezed more but my car is highly modified. I am 100% certain that can be achieved with a standard car.

Got it done by a VAG specialist for £650 inc engine fllush and oil filter change. I had already done the cam belt days before tho so that save a bit of labour. Cams can be had from vwenginerecon.com for £300 ish. Then you need tandem pump seal, stretch bolts, cam cover seal and cam seal from dealer. I got it done for me because I truly could not see the point doing it myself. This guy had the tools etc already and a nice warm garage, he charged 3 hours labour :)

Your car looks amazing.

the cam snapped?

So he said! I got his contact details from the feedback forum on ebay and asked how he got on with his cam. He said he owned a garage and advised me that thats what happened. He only left good feed back prior to installing!! As I said it could have been a bad install, iif you don't torque a cam evenly it will snap because they are hardened. Put me off tho. The shells are a good make and the tappets are the right colour, ie hardened or uprated. Up to you I guess, try Euro Car Parts Febi Bilstein are OE spec.
