Some more ideas, the other wheel I liked the look of right when I started looking at wheels is the Dotz Mugello. This is available in a 17"x8" or an 18"x8", ET32 which I presume will fit ok.

hey digimac if you lower yours on them rims you'll love it miles better just done mine and the 17's looks sweet now compaired to stock suspension
Another very quick photoshop, been looking at Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2s in either a 17"x7.5" or a 17"x8". Any Advantage in going for the wider 8" rim over a 7.5"?
Opinions welcomed, I think these look pretty good in 17s and I was originally thinking about refurbing my OEM wheels in black. More subtle and less bling than the deep dish rims.

You mean the black pro race 1.2? I just photoshopped them over my 17's so as close to 17 as i could get it. Trying to decide what wheel to go for.
Pro Race 1.2s are really nice wheels, light too They look the best with the platinum so far out of the sets you've posted

Calibre vintage wheels are worth a look and are available in 8 or 9 inch wide fitment 17'' or 18'' . . . look mint on any vag

Having photoshopped them they are my favs so far (should have done this like 3 weeks ago)
I believe the starfish oem rims are a 7" width which a lot of people seem to think is to narrow for a 225/17/45 profile tyre.
This was the reason to go to 7.5", anyone know of any advantages of going to 8" width?
(7.5's are lighter than the 8")
As my rear tyres are ok tread wise I would be sticking with the 225/17/45 profile tyre.
Also what offset would be best in the pro race?

Your current starfish wheels are ET38 and yep, 7" wide. What ET are the pro races available in?

I have 18s on mine too and it looks fine, I say go for 18s over 17s. I'd show you a picture but it won't allow me to post pictures as I'm a newbie on here.
lock1981, Cades wheels are not a rep wheel, their own design/wheel. Similar shape to a bbs lm though.

Also the tyres that you get in a package for 700 quid will be **** in my opinion as the wheels alone are 500 quid, that means the tyres are only 50 quid a corner. I was going to get the wheels from rim style and some tyres from camskill. (falken fk452) for about £280. So £780 for decent tyres and wheels, but then you would need to get the tyres fitted still.

CLCM in Sighthill are great for getting tyres fitted at much cheapness, he doesn't damage your wheels and gives good service. Only thing is you'll need to phone and book an appointment, always tends to be rather busy...
Made a quick photoshop of the wheels on the car, added an image as the car is as standard and one with the wheels I am thinking of buying. Just made the wheels big enough to have less tyre showing to try and emulate the inch bigger rim and lower profile tyre.
Any thoughts good or bad would be much appreciated,
