2006 Ibiza 1.4 Sport acceleration lag

Hi Everyone,
I have a few issues with my 2006 Seat Ibiza 1.4 Sport. The first problem I have with the car (which i have had since i've owned the car) is that when i push the accelerator pedal, there is a delay before the engine actually revs. I have had a look around and apparently the problem is due to either the Throttle body or Throttle position sensor and the model i have (100hp) has this problem and can be fixed by changing/upgrading the Throttle body or Throttle position sensor. Does anyone know if it's possible to use a newer model Throttle body or Throttle position sensor from say, a 2007 model Ibiza 1.4 or would i have to use the 2006 model parts?
Thanks,
James

There was a software update for the 100hp 1.4 petrol released in december 2009. I had it done on my old 1.4 100hp and the difference was really noticable. Much reduced lag, more responsive and pulled better on the motorway. Hope this helps...

Thanks rf860, I already tried that with one of the dealers (who were ridiculously unhelpful) and apparently the update has already been installed. From what i know, there is either a problem with the throttle body or the throttle position sensor and i need to replace one of the coils anyway. Why can't it just be the old school cable way instead of all these rubbish sensors. Grrrr....

If I were you I'd not accept an 'apparently'. Take it back and get them to check it out and confirm it has been updated. As it's a warranty thing it shouldn't cost you a penny (which might explain their unhelpfulness!)

Yeah i know what you mean. I'm gunna take it to another dealer cause the first one said it was "a characteristic of the car". BS. It's due for a service anyway so hopefully i can get everything sorted. Though, i'm not sure it's under warranty anymore seeing as it's an '06.

it will not be under warranty anymore, it will cost you to have this update done :(

I didn't think it would be. Well, i'll speak to the guys and have the diagnostics done and find out if i have the update, if not (which i actually hope i don't), i'll get that installed and see if it helps. Probably just replace the coil myself. Also, does anyone know where the actual Throttle Position Sensor would be? I've had a look online at some pictures and stuff but i still can't find it cause all the pictures that i've seen are for a throttle cable throttle body and not the sensor one, if that makes any sense!?

Any idea what this update costs at a SEAT dealer? I found this lag of input very frustrating after the cable input from my 2000 polo. I did mention it to my independent mechanic but he seems reluctant to do it.

I'm just off the phone with the service section of my nearest dealer and he hadn't a clue what I was on about. I even gave his the chassis number and he said there were no recalls or updates for it.

Even with the update the lag is still terrible. The update just makes it a bit more bareable. The problem is that horrible fly-by-wire TB, but apparently there is a company who make little plug in devices that are suppose to improve response so it feels like a cable TB.

my arosa 16v sport had the same problem probably took a good half a second for the tb to respond to pedal, have to have new pedal position sensor and have it adapted been alot better since but even now it still has lag.. its a fly by wire 1.4 thing i'm afraid u have to put up with it ;)
