Love this thread, just bought the BMW cable (or, rather, fake BMW cable) from Amazon. Does the job brilliantly and still £50 cheaper than the Seat version... what a rip off that is!

Still, amused that the CUP socket is a £300 extra were you to buy a BMW and the driver still has to buy the cable in addition.

Cool, well if the sound doesnt improve with the Seat lead, then they will definitely be getting it back.

Can someone confirm that the sound from the passenger side speakers are fine with this lead?

Haven't tried the lead as yet as it hasn't arrived, but MP3 tracks play perfectly from a memory stick in the USB port (but it does stall now and again), have you tried this??

Yeah, I used it last week and it seemed fine. So its either the lead (Seat say its not) or its the aux port/connection that is at fault.

Lead arrived today and it works perfect, good sound, no distortion and it steps back a track as well, the only negative thing is I can only get the track info on the MFD, to navigate folders I have to do it via the headunit, but that's not too hard.

Tony, if you take the mix off you may be able to step back tracks too, mine only does it now and again with the mix on but every time with it off. Just a thought.

Thanks Eric I'll try that

Ok tried it it works

skip back press button twice in quick succession

works with left/right buttons on left side steering wheel and up/down buttons on right side steering wheel

I threw money at the ipod in the car problem. Got an ipod dedicated Alpine head unit fitted into my Mk1 Cupra. All the menus work on the head unit, all the track info comes up, and it also has cd and radio. An ipod with a dead battery sits permanently attached to the lead, hidden in my glove box. Threw more money at it when I changed cars and had it taken out of the Mk1 and put into the Mk2, with the horribly expensive lead to also make the steering wheel controls work. Originally tried the tape gadgets and fm gadgets, and got fed up with how Mickey Mouse they were. It is fantastic having all that music in the car, sounding good, and fully controllable! But I guess not everyone has the money to throw at it.

Does it work with the mp3 standard headunit?
Are the usb and aux in connections on the back of the headunit?
I have aux port in the centre console. Will adding the lead make this redundant?
Anyone know how long the lead is?

If you have the CUP in the centre console USB and aux it works
If you only have AUX in the centre console just get an AUX lead plug into headphone socket and get a car charger (this config probably won't work with Steering controls)
the lead is fairly short around 200mm but with the CUP that's all you need

Just to update and let people know for future that the error of having distorted sound from the passenger side speaker whilst playing the ipod was down to a faulty aux port in the cup connector as mentioned previously on this thread. All sorted now :D

Tried the BMW/Mini lead from my missus' Mini the other day. Works perfectly!!

Only issue is that I get a message on the iPhone4 saying that "this accessory is not optimized for use....." Does anyone else get this warning?

I use an iPod Touch Gen 4 (same software I believe) and it works perfectly.

I get this message with my iPhone 4. I just press dismiss and it works fine.
