Hi guys,

As above, I have some Castrol Magnatec from my Fiesta ZS. My Tsi like many others has used a little bit of oil so I was just about to buy some oil premtively(sp?) just in case it suddenly decides to drink it all up.

The oil is fully synthetic 5w-30A1

Any help would be great

Thanks

Jay

When I rang seat asking the same as you I got told a good quality fully synthetic 10/40 would do.

Okay, I just been on halfrauds webby and castrol edge and other 5w-30's come up?

They really have no idea, do they. VW go to great lengths to develop an oil spec which is suitable for their engines, and is designed and developed to give the best protection against wear. Then a dipsh*t Seat dealership says something like this.

Your car needs an oil which meets VW504/507 specification, and at 5w 30 weight only. There is no Magnatec oil which meets the VAG specification.

It's all in the handbook. You'll probably find that VW spec. 502.00 is OK if you aren't on extended service intervals. 504.00 is OK for both extended and short service intervals but probably costs more.
Just read the container and look for 502.00 or 504.00 as appropriate.

I think the 1.4 TSI engine predates the 504.00 oil spec.

The 1.2 TSI is newer but my 2011 MY handbook still says 502.00 is OK for cars on short service intervals. What does your handbook say?

My understanding is that the 504.00 spec. was developed specifically for extended service interval vehicles.

The OP has a 1.4 TSI 180 in a Cupra. This particular engine was first fitted (according to Etka - Elsa data) in 2009-2011. The VW504/507 spec has been used since well before then. However, Seat seem to think they know what works well enough in all engines, and recommend all sorts of stuff.

You're correct insofar as VW502 spec is acceptable, however given the intricacies of the TFSI engine, I still say VW504/507 - 5w 30. Even Halfords online specification tool says the same.

Edit: In any event, I'd avoid anything Castrol.

Well ive bought the castrol. Why would you steer clear of Castrol Viking?

Righty o.
