Hey all

bit of a update

I'm been working out some figure's and i'm gonnna have to wait a while before i can swap car's as i need to put my self in a better financial position which could take me til the middle/end of next year to get me dream car:cry:

a Green Ford Focus RS:drool::drool::drool::drool:

my mind was saying get the Megane RS250 but my heart was saying get the Focus RS it's the best hot hatch ever made i think but only time will tell if i can get in 1

I've been thinking of the RS too, ran an insurance quote and it came out the same price as my cupra did at renewal 6 months ago!! Maybe its coming down a little, I don't know but if I can live with the reduced mpg I might just do it.

Is there much required to get a normal ST to the power output of an RS? The ST looks brill, but i quite like the subtlety of the ST. Plus the ST is cheaper, I’m thinking second hand...but then as mentioned here already, its the fuel consumption that'll be my bug bear. I just want a fast turbo charged car that's as smooth as silk and doesn't try to break me when going over speed bumps or pebbles in the road.

Don't reckon its cheap to get an ST upto the RS's output, not sure its possible with the turbo thats on the ST.

yeh i noticed that when i got my cupra for £200 more i got insure a RS500 but i could live with the reduced MPG just to hear that 2.5ltr 5clyinder volvo lump being started every day

Could have done a deal today, 2 or 3 choices about, but the p/x price they want to give takes the mickey, they'll keep to the end of the month tho when they'll need to hit their figures, it's a slippery slope once you start to look.

I'm thinking of going this route. After selling my MK1 Cupra R. Can get a 60 plate ST with little mileage for 14K ish. Spend 5-7K on mods and can easily acheive around 340-350 bhp /400 ft-lb torque. That's with an LSD, springs, map, hybrid turbo, exhaust, wheels even, silicone hoses etc...

£14k + £7k = enough to buy a proper RS in top spec and really good nick with lowish mileage that will retain it's value a hell of a lot better than the ST i.e. after you first year of ownership the ST will be worth £10-14k depending on your mods if you sold privatley and found the right buyer but the RS will still be around £18k and would be a hell of a lot easier to shift... RS vs. ST - hmmmm

Yeah a top spec RS that is standard. You'd then mod it probably and spend how much? They may be holding value now but in a few years they will come down. I'd rather own a high spec subtle ST than a lairy RS

£5-£7k for all those mods? Not sure you have calculated that properly. An LSD itself would chew up 1/3 of that if you include an uprated clutch. Then there is the price for the bigger turbo which will be needed to make those numbers. Then the exhaust, intercooler, intake, software etc etc

I would sooner have a Cupra and enjoy watching the ST disappear out the rear view mirror ;)

LSD and RS clutch can be fitted for £1500. Turbo is a reworked hybrid and in with the software and intake if bought as part of a kit. Intercooler is not that expensive perfectly good ones for £300 ish. Full turbo back exhaust can be had for £800-£1000. Don't have to go the expensive Miltek route.

Yeah and a decent Cupra is what 16K then how much spent on mods to get it to 360 bhp.
Both cars can have equal amount of money thrown at them GT28, GT30 etc... Still going to be roughly the same power. The only difference is the dearer purchase price of the RS and then you can spend a relatively small amount to get it past 400bhp upwards.

Mine has all Stage 2+ mods already (supposed to be 360bhp but I only managed 330bhp on a roller near us - was a hot day and heatsoaked to f***) and I only want £16k for mine! You can get a standard one from a SEAT dealership for £15k...

A quick remap on an RS would take you to 340bhp for less than £500 and if you're clever then you'll retain your full dealership warranty.
To get the ST to that you need to spend £4400 for a fully fitted solution - and then it gets REALLY expensive if you wanna get to 400-450bhp; same sorta cost as me to go to Stage 3 with a GT3071R i.e. another £5000...

So that's just engine so better brakes is always minimum £1800, suspension is another £1300 and LSD (as Al said) is a good £1500 at least, maybe more... Having a subtle sleeper car is kinda cool but it will always only ever be an ST... The RS will hold it's value much better than all the other hot hatches of it's generation.

Have a bit of a think before doing something like that mate or you may end up seriously regretting it...

You can pick up a Cupra for £9k now if you look hard enough, and a low mileage FL for £14k or a decent low mileage pre FL for £12k.

You wont need a new turbo in the Cupra for 360bhp which is another saving, and the Cupra will still be lighter and less laggy than a big turbo Focus.

If 5 cylinder note is the goal, in my opinion, you would be crazy to buy a Focus ST and spec it to 350bhp when you could buy a Focus RS, map it and have a rarer faster better set up car that will hold its value much better.

You can pick up a new but second hand supercharged Audi S4 for about £26. Get that a simple remap and it'll see 410bhp i think.

Just saying as the figures mentioned here seem to be rising into the low - mid twenties after modding,

Yours doesn't have an uprated intercooler though, right? Therefore not a proper S2+ car?

I do fancy a THS but can't really justify it if trying to sell... Revo say it's not necessary but is a recommended upgrade when on S2+
It'll start getting cold soon anyways so why bother! lol
