He doesnt actually mention the idle speed rising so im thinking its just the boost noise hes hearing? If so I reckon thats perfecty normal, and it probably isnt making much boost but just hearing the spool. And getting paranoid about a decat affecting things.

There's 2 threads on this. In the other he mention 0.5 bar boost at idle and that's not normal.

I have boost gauge on my tdi FR and also milltek turbo back...never seen the gauge move up or sart to boost on idle...every now and again the idle will increase from about 800 to a 1000rpm...only does this evey now and again....

It makes 0.5 bar of boost at idle revs it just randomly starts spooling up the revs don't move, I know it creates boost as I had logs done on vag com

I'm going to put a silencer on tue exhaust to see if that makes it less apparent

A senior diesel designer for delphi ex bosch, the later euro 4/5 pd 130s (blt) move the VNT mechanism an open the egr every few mins under idle to stop the egr overheating.
As said before mine has done this since new an so does my mates fabia with same engine.
Its more obvious on mine as i have a full miltek system inc decat.

Yeah they may move and the turbo spool up for cooling and stuff but looking at the map it's self it should not request anywhere near 0.5bar + you should need to increase the IQ for that. I'll look more into the map to confirm this.

Does it do this from cold? Or one warm?

Sorted.

a mate again spent the day on it with vag com logging everything.

when the egr valve is open this is whats causing the 0.5 bar of boost on idle, the reason it sounds like a jet whilst at idle boosting is due to the straight through pipe with no silencer's at all, if it had a silecer then i guess you would not hear it, cleaned the egr valve out and boost has dropped to 1.55 peak and hold 1.3 and its almost a flat boost curve now rather than hit peak and then smooth then peak up again.

just orderd a egr blanking plate so when thats fitted it will not boost up at idle and make a jet thrust sound.

Then i ill have the car mapped to delete the egr and up the boost :)

That makes sense, as the EGR feeds exhaust gas back into the intake. So if not operating correctly will affect boost. Is there still 0.5bar at idle then?

When egr is closed there is no boost at idle.

When egr opes it sounds like a jet and creats 0.5 bar of boost, simple fix is blank egr, delete it in a remap and job done.

thats better :)

Bondi its more obvious when cold due to it raising the idle too.
