Remove the engine cover, and follow the pipe from the airfilter/maf (tip) there will be a 1" diameter pipe from the metal pipe at the top, that goes to a black cicular 90* valve. with a 5mm small rubber hose going to the top of it. that then goes into the TIP. this is the DV. remove it and look for tears in the diaphragm, and double check it operates by pushing it in and making sure it returns. or you could replace it with a Forge 007p.

ace, i'll attempt to have a look at that today then.

out of interest. should i hear the DV hiss (even a little bit?) when revving the engine (stationary)? as i checked some youtube vids of the forge 007p last night and people just reving there was a very audible TSSSSSS sound on letting go of the pedal. i know the DV in the stock seat isnt exactly going to be ultra specs but I dont think ive ever heard it make a noise, moving or stationary.

so will the stock DV unscrew like the forge one does so i can take out the spring/diaphragm? do i need to remove it to do any of this?

thanks (again apologies for the probably dumb sounding questions, but im learning sooo much about engines from just having this car and from you guys on here, only ever had a company car before so its always been a case of not needing to know... plus i'm I.T. not mechanically minded :))

No probs. the OEM one is a sealed unit, so no you can't open it. What induction setup have you got? It's it's the airbox you'll unlikely hear anything. Pop the lid off and easiest way is to load the engine, 2500rpm and ride the clutch in gear, 5th will help, less than 1sec is needed. and quickly clutch in and off throttle this should help it produce boost. It may help to have someone else see if they can hear hissing/leaks while loading it up.

everything on my car is stock at the moment. only bought it couple weeks ago. just trying to get these errors sorted before i start tweaking with modding it. was going to get a jetex airfilter this week i think .

ok i'll get my old man to stand there whilst i rev and check it out.

to clarify , i cannot really check the diaghragm for holes etc in a stock DV because i cannot take it apart?

ok i removed the airbox and did some revving and it def sounded as though the DV was doing something (heard the TSSSSS on the come-down of the rev... im assuming thats the DV)

oddly the usual revving noises wasnt stupidly grunty as i'd have expected if it was removed/open cone filter.

couldnt hear any air leaks but to be honest its hard to tell with all the noise of the engine.

didnt have the balls to remove the DV to blow down it as it was attached with jubilee clips without a screw head on them and i dont have any spare ones to replace them with.

i dont think it was.... should it have been?
yeah i'm going to have to invest in some jubilee clips methinks.

just to update on this.. i had a stage1 done the other day and can def tell the turbo is kicking in so i'm guessing that all this was down to

a) all of the other cupras i must have test drove before i bought this one must have been remapped already
b) the fault codes *may* have been a false alarm? i dont think they've come back more than twice now. still wouldnt mind getting a leak test done.
thanks for all your advice
