FINALLY - If the whole purpose of these are to make the CAR more visible - then why have they not fitted DRL's on mopeds / motorbikes? These got forgotten about, yet BMW and AUDI get them. That makes sense, forget the most vulnerable motor vehicles on the roads (bikes), but put them on the biggest cars instead. Care to answer this point?

I don't know if they're automatic, but just about every bike I see on the road has its lights on.

Most motorcycles have had DRLs for years!

i like them, haters gonnna hate,
alot easier to see cars with them in adverse conditions, although they do make sidelights look useless my misses has an aygo with them and its easier to see the car with drl's then with the sidelights (dril's turn off .with sidelights etc), I have noticed that no where near as many people pull out on you in the aygo with them compared to my mk4 which doesn't have them. Also as said if it saves 1 life then they have purpose

I think they are great looking product from Philips / SEAT,just released the quality should be superb. Possibly be a standard fit on new vehicles soon.

THink they look too in your face, Ive seen similar ones on a Btcc front bumper side grills which look quite nice though

Maybe the people against them are the same people that hate cruise control, leather seats, satnav, DSG, auto wipers and the like. You know, the people that say they don't "LIKE" something as a cover up for the fact that they don't "HAVE" something.

When they get a car with them they will suddenly like them ;)

I used to say that leather seats were a waste of money because they were hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Then I got some and loved them.

no no i love cruise control and couldnt be without it now had to drive a hire car without the other day hated it, couldnt keep a steady speed at all

as with all the rest you mentioned i love them (dont have certain things but still they are a good idea) 2 led strips is still just a pointless add on.

at what point is 2 small led strips easier to spot than the car that its attached to.

I'll accept DRLs when somebody shows me some data on how effective they are at reducing the amount of loitering in the middle of roads. Of course if they save lives then what's the problem?

Until that time I'll just compare them to a man with a red flag.

Incorrect - our other "family car" has all the above features you state, plus more (not a SEAT). Agree they are all great features, that can make the driving experience more pleasurable.

Plus, being interested in cars and all things related :D there is alot of new technology featured on new cars at this time, that for sure I like the look of.

However, DRL's are one of the few "features" that looks rediculous - plus the silly concept behind it. If I had them on my car, I'd get them disabled (provided in doing so doesn't interfere with the cars primary lighting).

It's nothing personal Nath, I'm just stating my logic against them. ;)

DRL's on motorbikes, Seeing as they are the minority on the road their legislation will catch up soon enough. They have cats now as well as ABS and wheelie control you know

Just wait till the DRL's on cars are made to flash and they force you to have a little speaker emitting white noise just like an airport golf cart, You'll be having kittens :D

DRL's are here to stay and in a few years when all the older cars without them are scrapped you'll be collecting 3 points if you use VCDS to turn your DRL's off.

I think DRL's are cool, some of the Merc and Audi ones are a bit OTT but I'd rather catch sight of the car that's almost in my blind spot than loose my no claims.
Also vice versa, I'd rather someone spotted me that run me up the kerb and trash one of my alloys (see my thread from a week or so ago)

Buy some SMD led bulbs for the fogs n activate them through vcds?!

These look too aftermarket IMO but I think DRL's r a great idea.....

Obviously faceless has a problem with them, but perhaps that's because in his area it's all chavs with mondeos n cavaliers with some crappy strips stuck on with double sided tape in the most ridiculous place ever! Eye sore!

Each to their own though, but I'm certainly in favour of them....

Meh, they look naff.

I don't understand why we needed specific DRLs, why couldn't they just make sidelights stay on all the time? Surely that'd have nearly the same effect.

It's what people without DRL's do anyway.
