So, I went to the dealers today to get some warranty work done on my Ibiza FR; sagging on the leather driver's seat, broken rear left seat catch, bonnet clips falling to pieces... long story short they had to order 2 things in for me and managed to get both orders wrong [:@].

Anyway, as I was leaving in a foul mood, I spoke to a salesman who said I could get a Leon FR+ pretty much right away if I chopped in my Ibiza FR 2.0 Diesel against it. With 0 deposit it'd apparently work out less than the £330 a month I'm currently paying for the Ibiza. It seems to have a tonne of gadgets, even though I really wish you could save a bit by declining to have the sat nav (I've never come across an in-built sat nav that comes close to TomTom).

So I've been doing some research and obviously the MK3 is out soon - I'm not sold on the new Mk3 look, in fact I think it looks like a pointier Ibiza. What worries me though is that I'll be stuck with the car for 3 years due to the fact the car may depreciate massively once the Mk3 comes out. Is this a valid concern?

Is a £300-330 figure a good deal? I've looked into leasing and I can lease one for around £280 (inc VAT). Seems to me that if the lease car companies can get to that figure, the dealership should definitely be able to get sub £300. Has anyone got experience of buying the FR+ 2.0 TDi recently and what deal did you get?

Answer to the thread question - yes, I think so.

Expect the value of the MK2 Leon to be kicked well and truly in the arse within a year especially when the new model comes out.

If you are getting the Leon under PCP then you'll be given a guaranteed price for it in a years time, counteracting any effect the MK3 has on the market.

Might be worth thinking about :)

I chopped my Bocanegra in for a new FR+ TDI in June myself!

Yeah, that was my thinking. Although looking at prices, it seems you can pick up a 1 year old Leon FR+ for about 15k. Will need to look into the PCP difference between a 1 year old one and a brand new one.

How does it compare to the Ibiza?

The difference in the cabin refinement, I think, is the most noticeable thing! Inside it feels much more comfortable and quieter on the road. I took the TDI 170, which is quick enough for me, especially when most of my miles are done on the motorway these days!

I never drove a TDI Ibiza so I can't compare unfortunately!

I changed from a 1.4 TSI. If I had another Leon I would opt for DSG box, it's the only thing I really miss from my Ibiza! Aside from driving it like I stole it occasionally.. :p

But generally I think the Leon feels a lot more refined and has a higher build quality about it than the Ibiza did...

And for a Diesel its such a smooth car to drive!

Thanks mate, I'm feeling it might be a good decision... What do you get MPG-wise?

We've got no idea yet whether the mk3 will actually be any good.

So if you like the mk2 FR+ and want one, then it would seem to make reasonable sense to buy one. If they're in "shift these quickly" mode you should be able to get a decent discount to offset any depreciation issues.

My overall average so far (only done 3891 miles so far) is 52.6. Usually, on a good and steady motorway run, I will be around 55-60. Only tend to see it above 60 if I'm doing an 'eco' run at about 60mph :p

Being a diesel there's plenty of running in to do on the engine yet!

Find it hard to not use all that torque in my right foot as well!:p

I picked up mine just after the 'Supercopa' made it's appearance. They were going for £21/22,000 so the FR+ was being marketed at £18,000! Nuts!

As if a body kit is worth £4000

I don't believe so, classed as a different model I believe. The FR+ should still be available as an alternative.

I just checked with the website for the dealership I buy mine from and they still list the FR and FR+ model's in the order list.

Edited to remove link ;)

It's the FR+ that I'm after as it comes with a lot more gadgets. I was just unsure as to whether there was an FR+ and an FR+ Supercopa.

Im considering chopping mine in too for an FR+ and had the same thoughts. Will keep my eye on this thread :snack:

Very similar for me. 45 miles to and from work each day. Then whatever I do on an evening and weekend. My parents live 50miles away and the wife's are 180miles away so I get around a lot. I do feel like I'm simply burning money
