according to pic on ETKA, its the large PCV pipe that runs from block to oil filler area.
 
Can the dealer charge you for the oil consumption test?
Mine has used oil from new and I put 1.3 L in this weekend (thats on 1000 miles since I last filled it)
My dealer says its in tolerance and they will charge me if I insist on a test!!
 
YES! Hard driving! I do alot of motorway driving with lots of speed cameras around, my trips are generally 250 milei economy drives or driving the baby to nursery through town. Not much scope for driving hard. Probably why ive got to 45k without a new engine yet.

High rpm is my advice

Id say if it fails, pay if not they better getting fixing it.
 
Got a response from SEAT UK around the updated breather basically the gist of it is... £48 part in stock, and as with all none official forums our comments are subject to owners personal views and not official. If i buy the part as theres no official recalls/outstanding work needed (even though it may help) it will invalidate the warranty and associated parts.

So after my long struggle to help keep my car happy and try and relax my mind... i give in.

I have lost quite a bit of faith now.

YEP - Typical Corporate Washover - just so they don't have to do a recall.

"We don't care how many people out there have exactly the same problem - as far as we are concerned, there is no official problem so we are not going to fix it"

"And if you fix it yourself - the car is modified from factory release so your warranty is void"

I was just saying that this is normal in large companies - never admit there is a problem so you can not be forced to fix all of them.

Look at the post by spud31 - he posted the new part numbers.

Oil consumption is caused by:-

1. Piston barings which wobble and casuse pistons to move slightly sideways instead of up/down which puts more stress on the rings.

2. Piston rings are weak and have even failed outright on their own with chunks coming off and destroying the engine.

3. Poorly designed engine means that temps of oil are very high, making the oil less effective, making things worse.

4. Rubbish pcv valve system so it dosent regulate preassure in crank, meaning oil is more likely to be sucked past rings into conbustion chamber.

4. The misfiring causes unburnt fuel to be dumped into cylinder, washing oil covering the piston and ring, meaning more friction, scored cylinder sleeves and eventually the car loosing compression and the chance of blowing a piston.


The new engines have, new pcv, new piston+rings+sleeves, additon of an oil cooler, Also an new oil seperator which is part of the pcv
 
I think the fact that there saying it wont be covered if you change the oil breather is shocking im half tempted to send them an email myself, anyone got the UK email for SEAT?

I mean were all trying to stop this happening and id buy the part myself, but wont if it invalidates my warranty.
 
TBH id like to see them prove no warrenty if you decide to change the breather pipe yourself.
They wont even notice
Id go and find a dealer with a newer cupra/fr to see what the change to the pipe is.

Ok iv'e had the new breather pipe put on my Boc which is a 10 plate, Done the 600 miles they asked me to do. took back for check , using half the oil it was using before.......... hopefully job done.... until the next issue hehehe
 
How does a car manufacturer decide if a recall is needed or not? Can they be forced to do a recall on a defective engine or only on safety grounds? There seems to be far to many issues from this engine. Any point in the group contacting trading standards or watchdog?

I beleive they can only be forced to do a recall / retrofit on safety grounds.

High oil use / missfires are not classed as safety issues.
 
We should all club together and right emails/letters to someone, i mean i cant beleive there has been so many iissues with these cars, its a daily occurance on here let alone on all the other forums, there is something we can do surely.
 
Watchdog would be the people to write too. I was thinking of going to trading standards about seat not allowing me to have the breather pipe even if my car doesn't use a lot of oil ATM. Although it did use a quarter of a dip stick in 250miles.
