Hi guys,

I've done a search but havent found the answer.

My mate has bought a Golf tdi pd150 which I believe is the same engine as the Leon FR 150?

Anyway, its got an intermittent problem. I've never been in the car to see the problem first hand, but he says one day it will drive fine and pull well as these engines do, another day its sounds like it has a knock (like the usual diesel engine noise) but louder, and sometimes a mechanical vibration goes right through the car and sounds like the dash is falling out?! Also on the days it does this, the car wont rev past 3k rpm or go past 70mph.

The vibration isnt DMF rattle, as the gearbox pooped itself after a week of him having it, so when the box was off the clutch was inspected and it looks perfect. The vibration is just a short burst then goes away.

Anybody experienced this before, or know what it could be? Could a dodgy injector cause this sort of rattle/vibration?

Thanks,

Chris

I had a knock/tapping noise on my PD150 once the camshaft was on the way out and the power was non existant that time.

Quite a common problem on these but may not explain why it pulls ok other days!?

I had something similar on my Leon and replaced the injector loom (rocker cover off job) which is very straightforward.
I did the trick but to be honest your mates fault could be;
Maf
EGR
Unit injector
Fuel filter (no service schedule on the PD150 though)
Tandem pump.
Best to scan/log whilst symptoms are there to diagnose properly

I doubt it would be ok one day and not the other if there was extensive wear on the cam or followers. Once it got bad enough to produce that symptom it would only get worse.

This.

Had it on mine, had new cam, tappets and shells replaced at a cost of about £650.

Mine was also intermittent though, came in and out until eventually it just stayed in the poor performance mode.

Has a distinctive sound, here's what mine sounded like

exactly the same symptons as mine, at one point i thought the steering wheel was going to come off in my hands

Thanks mate.

Is there a visible way of diagnosing this or is it a case of swap it and see? Also was it expensive?

Yes it would have been €1000 I think over here, happened a week before I got my mk2 so I just sold it off cheap to a vag specialist mechanic, he fixed it and used it himself for work.

Happened with mine at the beginning anyway but not for long

Hi guys, sorry to bump an old thread. The original problem of the vibration has been solved, however it now keeps going into limp mode. Its been scanned and brings up a code shown in the picture below. Anyone know what could be causing this?

Thanks

Sticking turbo vanes

Turbo clean required at exhaust side or possibly worst case new turbo job
