Rainwater gets into Engine Bay from Scuttle on my Leon FR

I recently purchased a 2008 Leon K1 and wondered why my bonnet sound proofing was soaking wet. I took my soaking one off and dried it out on the radiator. Not gonna replace it until I get this foam seal. Looking forward to my chat with Seat later. If my car wasn't at a local specialist today having a new cambelt and water pump fitted, I would be doing it today.

A few clips on mine broke and due to the weight of water and the broken clips it sagged and got torn on the engine.
The clips were replaced under warrantee, but not the carpet as "Seat won't pay us back".
 
Yeah I am gonna need luck, Seat Customer Care told me that they knew nothing about this issue and told me to contact my local Seat dealer. The guy at Seat in Birmingham knew what I was on about but said they couldn't do it free unless my car was still in warranty. Total joke.

I also did this myself as Seat wanted £40 for the kit plus 1 hrs labour.
It cost me £4 for the foam tape and took me about 25 minutes. Just gotta see if this helps, hopefully it will.
 
Just a note to y'all!

I've had a new under bonnet felt and the scuttle sealed today at my local dealer under warranty!

I know there have been some who have had issues getting this done/been refused as a warranty claim but my local dealer managed to get the go-ahead from Seat and mine is all sorted now!:D

I was informed by the warranty guy that whilst there ISN'T a TPI for this issue at the moment, he has been building a file with customers who have had this same issue (taking photo's of the damaged felting and taking customer details afaik), and he was going to send this to Seat in an effort to illustrate that this IS an issue and not just a few isolated cases! It obviously worked as mine has been done today under warranty.

Just thought i'd share with everyone!;)
 
Well done. If this guy at SEAT is genuine, it's about time they started looking after the interests of the customer. The link to the original TPI is still active if needed (first post on page 5).
 
Mine is being replaced next Saturday, dealer knew of the issue and ordered the parts there and then, no quibbles at all. So getting new soundproofing, clips and apparently a new rubber seal as well.

ETA Mine still has 14 months warranty left.

Anyone know the date of this TPI? Iv been in to dealer today and they have point blank not heard of the fix! Looked on line with seat and said he had heard of this problem but nothing to fix it. He is waiting for a reply from Seat. He even said he can see the damage being done!
 
Cheers for that. I did give him the part number but it still came up with nothing. I'm thinking I should ring Seat uk and get them to ring garage. Pain in the a*se!!
 
I had mine done a few months ago when i booked the car in for it's anual service, My dealers warranty guy also told me at the time that the original TPI no longer showed up on there system, But he'd had enough customers complain about the issue and he'd been compiling a file of complaints and pictures to illustrate that these were not isolated cases but a more "wide spread" issue. It worked anyway as i've had my scuttle sealed and a new felt pad under he bonnet to replace the old/mouldy one that had sagged!

Fight your corner as there definitely agreeing to fix this for some (if not all) of us as my car proves!

I had the same issue - but I never got it looked at. For some reason, the water always managed to get into the air box?!

Oh well, maybe the new owner will get it sorted.
 
Guys...the TPI from seat is a JOKE (a bad one)
Their fixshit is also a joke (a bad one too) and works only for some time or not so well from the beginning.

The only fix that works is from this guy and well, we should all thank him!

PS: completely sealing the wholes is NOT recommended!
- rust protection in that area is not perfect (especially if the plastic part has been removed using non-plastic tools. so standing water for days under there - not so good.
- opening the bonnet will make the water leak on the hot turbo,sensors and surroundings
- water expands when it is frozen! - it will make the plastic part and the clips bend/break/deform...
 
I asked SEAT UK customer care to look into this warranty fix because it doesn't work. Might give them another ring next week to ask them of the progress they've made (HAHA). I said that I still have water leaking and although my car doesn't qualify for another fix, I don't want other people to suffer the same issues that I've had.
