Ok. On inspection couple days ago i could see my cv boot had a split in it.so i took it to a garage near me that said they could replace it yesturday.since then its been a bit of a mare.
Firstly they told me the cv joint also needed replacing as they couldnt get it back together after striping it down.fair enough i no the chap and he said he would cary out the work for £85 and would be ready today after the new cv had been fitted.but i just come off the phone to the chap and he told me the cv joint doesnt fit as its a vag only part.? So they replaced the driveshaft (WTF) .and now that doesnt fit.( WTF).i not got a clue whats happening down at the garadge but im worried nw if they have actualy caried out this work on a leon before.
What do you all think i should do?
i dont want to pay for parts i didnt need in the first place.
Cheers.

Have they said why it doesn't fit? Sounds a bit odd to me..... I've replaced my cv joint without any problems what so ever?

The chap said the cv joint they ordered was wrong As its a vag only part.so they replaced the whole driveshaft and now said its also the wrong one. I dont think the chap would intentialy rip me off.but if all that was wrong was a split cv boot.posibly a cv joint.i dont wana have to pay for a whole new driveshaft. And two days worth of labour.

Is yours a lcr m8, i had an issue once when a garage tried replacing my cast wishbones with the pressed steal wishbones from a lesser model, they didn't fit either!!!

Sent from my Windows Phone using Board Express

Yea lc 180.ok just had an update from the garage.he said they put the cv joint back together and it was moving freely.but when it was on the car it just locked up.?
So he is geting me a new driveshaft with the cv joint on it.and hes goin to do it for the same price.£85 Becouse of the fact i have been left without my motor for three days.which is ok as far as im concerned. But im still puzzled as to why they need to get a whole new driveshaft.rather than the right cv joint.

They need to use the correct part, trying to change things to make the wrong part fit is daft.

Take it to a vag independent garage.:)

Ok. but what are you suggesting if its in a garage now striped down i cant drive it anywhere.i agree vag independant garage would be beter but there not close to me. Shorly the chap doing the work will be able to use same suppliers as vag independant garage. ?

You'd expect so, but why didn't he? Maybe he thought he was saving you money fitting a cheaper part but the moment he realised it wasnt going to work he should have re-quoted for the oem part. Changing the drive shaft was just digging a bigger hole and even if it worked and hes kind enough to take a loss on the job, your still driving away in a lesser car than the one you gave him.

If the cars stuck there you could try to find out exactly what the problem is, how it doesnt fit together right, ask him to email you some pics and then put them on the thread. Ive never done one but many on here have.

I totaly agree with what your saying. But i dont want to sound like im questioning him when i speak to him. as hes a friend of a mate and he helps me out from time to time. I think best action to take now is just wait and find out what parts he replaces tmr and il post exactly what brands he used as he said the right parts ariving tmr.he said he couldnt get the cv joint on the driveshaft which is why he ordered a new one. Just hope all is sorted tmr.

Quick update. Cars ready they fitted a Q drive driveshaft.which i believe is a ecp part. I have asked tbem to keep my old driveshaft tho and i am going to have a crack at sorting this one out in the mean time just in case the q-drive one doesnt last. Unless anyone could point me in the right direction where i cpuld get my old driveshaft reconditioned..???

You might find the old driveshaft was on an exchange basis

I paid £12 ish delivered for my new joint of ebay was fitted and that was a few years ago now.

Just had the inner cv boot done and that cost £3.00 ish delivered too.

Picked the motor up along with the old driveshaft.the car seems to pull to the left under hard accelaration not sure if this is related to the new driveshaft???. The mechanic said if theres a problem with the new driveshaft they will change for free under 1 years warentee.

Cheers lee69 theres one 15miles from me il give them a bell and see what they say.

gave local www.alignmycar.com people a beel. the chap on the phone said if its only happening under hard accelaration that it wont be the tracking.so back to the drawing board any other ideas???. Hopfully wont be anything to do with the new drive shaft.

Could this just be torque steer??. Was just looking and someone mensioned this on another thread on a golf forum.car has been remapped by p-torque. And was running 260fbt.on the dyno

Maybe a little. Not as noticeable as it is now. But its only under hard accelaration its fine and drives straight and true when being driven normaly.just noticed it when i gave it a bit in second earlear. Maybe i just wasnt holding the steering wheel tight enough lol.
