I feel yout pain regarding modification costs, I'm in the same boat. It's annoying seeing so many good quality domestically made parts in the USA at great prices but nothing over here and what is over here has a massive mark up with next to no tuners developing anything specific for the engine. I can name one U.K tuner (I won't) who have developed upgrades for the N54 engine but as they have NO competition over here they can pretty much price how they see fit. Anyhow, for this reason the exhaust I chose is totally OE BMW, funnily enough it was the cheapest option and probably the best quality; does Audi offer a performance range?

Small Update + Porsche Experience Day
-----

The Audi S4 has been really really good in these awful conditions we had. Cant stress enough how impressive this new Quattro system is on the B8. Due to the conditions I am yet to really experience the remap fully so really cant wait till summer!
I did have to do a bit of maintenance on the car recently that wasn’t so positive.

I got my front passenger side wheel refurbed after a little accident with a curb off a roundabout. Another Audi driver decided to show me how fast his car was and zoomed on the outside of me a bit close which forced me to hug the curb a little too tight. I also got an unwanted ding on the right rear door. No idea how that happened however the ding chap is coming this week to repair it!

Side note; on pistonheads I saw that Chris Harris [got to be best Automotive journalist out there] bought an Audi S4 too! http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=27381

Interesting to see what Videos he releases when he has fettled with the car! Quite pleasing to hear he has such high praise for the car so shows I made a good choice hehe!

On the 7th April the AMDs RR day is on so the car will get a full detail before then to make sure she is looking crisp. I do have plans for the car [better brake pads, discs, maybe ARBS and APR induction pipe] however it depends what happens after my wedding. I say this because recently I went on a Porsche Experience day and the Mrs is coming round the fact that I want a Porsche.

The day consisted of:
1) Porsche 911 GT3 track driving 45 minutes
2) Porsche 911 GT3 track driving 45 minutes
3) Wet handling circuit /drifting
4) Maz drooling over Porsches.

Without a doubt it was one of the best experiences of my life, a real dream come true!

The instructor was amazing. He let me have the keys to the GT3 straight away to gauge my driving style and teach me the track layout. The amount of information given to me whilst driving was insane and I learned not only how to handle the GT3 but also how to driving quickly and smoothly in the pouring rain and mist. There was never any hint of him telling me off to slow down and he encouraged me all the time to really push whilst keeping everything smooth and in check. I never realised just how amazing these cars really are and also how fast you can really go with a properly sorted car in the wet.
GT3 is a totally different beast to the GT2. There is so much to tell so I will keep it real short and sweet!

- GT3 has better feel and handling. Engine sounds miles better than the GT2.
- GT2 is stupidly quick and the brakes are out of this world.

I did have a few hairy moments with the back going a bit twitchy on hard acceleration on a few bends and exiting bends. The instructer was really impressed that I saved the car from spinning out and modulated the throttle accordingly on several occasions. I was just happy I didn’t crash and die lol and it certainly was sh!tting myself during it lol.

After 90 minutes of track driving [YES 90 minutes] I was completely exhausted but still so happy about the day. My Mrs said she never seen me so happy and I said to her I never been so angry at her. Why she asked…cause I want a Porker even more than I did couple of hours back!

I could ramble all day about the Porsche day so feel free to ask any questions :)

Did you see the Magnus Walker Videos Maz? That was the moment I feel hard for an early Porsche. if you haven't seen them, google his name and that'll bring you to his website and videos. This guy has it all! would money allow a 911 or would you go for a Cayenne?

Are you all ready for the wedding then? Ours was nearly 2 yrs ago; one of the greatest but most exhausting days I've ever had :)

Yea I have, great arnt they. I would love to own an early Porsche but they are quite expensive for the ones I been looking at. Also as there rear ends are a bit happy compared to the new ones I wonder if they are an accident waiting for happen.

After wedding, money should allow me to get a 911 997 Carrera 2S. The task would be finding the right one with right sort of miles and age. I tried not to go to deep into it now cause I dont know what priorities will be after the wedding and how much i would lose chopping in the S4. I would have to get another car if I got a porker [some cheap to run around in]. I am really tempted by a 993 turbo but they are mega bucks for a good one. I could get a shabby one and fix it in my garage which I wouldnt mind doing as I would have all the time in the world and enough space to do it. I dunno :) I am just happy the Mrs has been won over and she has given in to the fact I will be getting one at some point.

Small Update #1 - AMD RR Day prep

As per my previous post the AMD RR day is coming up and I want the car to look good for the day. The wheel has come back refurbed and the colour match is really good so happy with that. I also got the ding chap round and he got most of the ding out. It is barely noticeable now unless you eyeball the panel from 5 inches away.

We have had some good weather this Easter weekend [by good i mean not raining or snowing] so I took the opportunity to wash the car. I am wondering whether a detail is necessary as the paint is pretty smooth and care looks spot on. Happy that all the winter prep and regular maintenance is working a treat. The car has only ever had 2 coats of wax so to be beading this well nearly a year after I bought it makes me :)

Hi Maz, nice little read, your updates are always thorough :).

First thing, your kerb ding. I just wanted to ask if you find a lot of lesser model A4's/A3's/A5's trying to race you? I ask as I am trying to combat the same thing; I am plagued by the 320d presently, everyone one of them is Lewis Hamilton apparently and they'll happily die trying to beat a sporty looking little BMW. My assumption is they see the car from way back, get into race mode to catch it and then when they've flown up close they see the 135i badge and get a hard-on I guess. Honestly I'm sick of it, every time I drive the car I have some twonk cut me up, undertake me or tailgate me and all on unsuitable parts of road for a little play within the limits (not for them, they'll happily going round past 100mph in hope of stretching their little p3nis a little). Don;t get me wrong, I'm all for a little blip withing the limits on a straight dual carriageway but these fools, like you've experienced will try to physically take you out on bends, slip roads or merging lanes. I wonder if debadging the car will help...

It's true what they say, BMW drivers are cun...

That Porshe day sounds immense, how much was it to do that and where? I have a billion air miles to cash in and I believe days like those are on offer :).

The Porsche days are quality. I work for Porsche so have been the experience centre a numerous times but still very enjoyable everytime I go down.

My faves are the off road course and the low friction handling surface. Nothing better than drifting a GT3RS round it :)

A new start

Today I have out a deposit down on a.....It has Carbon Ceramics, 4 Wheel Drive, Crested Seats, Sat Nav, a button that changes the suspension settings and something that tells you the time also.

Truly is a beautiful car and I very much am looking forward to starting a new love affair. I haven't really had one since the Leon was passed on but this new car definitely got my heart racing. Its a dream come true. The car will definitely be receiving a lot of love and get driven as much as possible!

The Audi S4 was a great car. I cannot speak highly enough of the car. For a saloon few cars can really match it for the money and it has so much tuning potential which sadly I never really explored. It will be missed.

:D

Maybe, maybe not.

Without a doubt! Great to hear that you've found something that can rekindle your enthusiasm for cars again. An expensive move I'm sure but what a move. It's not often we can fulfill our motoring dreams... Pics pics pics please :)

Hope you're well Maz?
Thanks James - Like I said when I sold the Leon its like I lost something. I liked the BMW, I liked the S4 I appreciated their qualities as Saloons and the weapons they were. However they werent mine like the Leon was mine. I hope this new car purchase and it is a dream car purchase will light my fire up again. To be honest I never felt this happy [last time was when I was getting the Leon all those years ago].

With the BMW I slept like a baby and although I looked forward to it I sort of wasnt bothered.
With the Audi I was eager and loved it but the love soon turned into "ok, its really quick and clinical. It does everything really well but its missing something"

In general everything is good mate. Marriage is over, Mrs want a baby and I want a car before the baby lol :)

It's gotta be a Porsche, crested seats is what makes me think it is!
Maybe, maybe not - lots of cars have crested seats...i think :)
