Retro fitting cruise control please help :-/

Hi I've rang around a few places with regards to getting cruise control fitted on my car. Three places have said they will do it (they are VAG places not just any old garage) prices ranged from £2-300 but so worth it as I do 180 miles a day and another genius scheme has been out in place along the m6 to introduce more of those horrid permanent average speed cameras:cry: I don't speed but at 4am sometimes it's easy to wander slightly over or under the 50mph current speed so I wanna just cover my ass :)

Anyhow the nearest garage recently rang and said that actually they can no longer get the parts required from seat to do the job ! Does anyone have any recommendations in where to go, or can tell me the parts I need so I can buy them then just send them to the garage to fit?

I've found a site (kufatec) and as far as I know I only need the stalk? But it's asking me if I have the multifunction display or not?!

Does my 2006 facelift FR have a multi function display or not? (What is that?!)

Sorry so many questions!! :help:

Hello.

I fitted it to mine recently. Bought from Kufatec!

And I was also stuck on your question about multi function display but once I tell you what it means you'll kick yourself laughing in embarrassment haha. Basically it means does your car have the thing that tells you MPG, trip, average speed, etc. The right hand stalk with the two buttons on the end :)

Which yours does as it's the FR version, my sport does etc etc

Fitting was kind of easy, if not a bit fiddly. I've got loads of pics of me doing it and I followed a strange guide

I documented loads of pics in there!

Any more questions let me know and ill try my best to help

Just looked at your thread and the work you have put into your car and would like to say "Well Done" mate.

Love the fact you have kept it looking standard. I would love cruise on my FR. It does look a bit fiddly stripping the dash out and taking the wheel off etc.

If you ever get the time any chance of a full detailed step by step write up on here. I know these take some time in doing.

Also do you have a link for the kit that you used. Thanks

Edit.

Was it this one.

I had cruise retrofitted to my MK4 1.8t FR by a Seat dealer. All they did was fit the stalk and enable it with their software (VCDS)

My seat dealer said they wouldn't retrofit anything :(
Doubt they'd be able too anyway if my local vag place can't get the seat parts off them. Couldn't even get them from sere either
Gonna try this other stalk now anyway as it's been fitted successfully before just so long as this vag place discounts me for sourcing and buying the part myself lol [B)]

Dan, your DIY skills and car are very good, well done :)

Little Red, if you do go for this and you don't have VCDS, give me a shout and I'll activate it for you (free) as you're local!

Mine arrived in 10 days when I ordered mine. The instructions are in German but Dan's guide pretty much sumarises the install ;)

It's not hard, just fiddly when trying to get to the plug at the bulk head.

If he does the job stand over him with your phone and take plenty of photos for us guys on here.

Dan makes it look easy but having done most things on cars I have never taken off a steering wheel. Gives me the shivers thinking about pulling the bugger off without damaging the rim.

Cruise was a £165 dealer option when I bought the car back in 2008. I thought about it but did not think I would use it, bloody fool I am.
