Retro fitting cruise control please help :-/

Dan makes it look easy but having done most things on cars I have never taken off a steering wheel. Gives me the shivers thinking about pulling the bugger off without damaging the rim.

Cruise was a £165 dealer option when I bought the car back in 2008. I thought about it but did not think I would use it, bloody fool I am.

He's pretty handy with stuff like this, he bought me a momo for my last car and fitted that but I can't use it on this as it has an airbag - that's the only thing that scares me, I work with cars/parts and have a huge paranoia over these boxed explosives!!

I'll try and take lots of photos then and see if I can do a write up for u all!

As for wiring, coming from my job, I know the cars I work on everything's there in the wiring loom so if you did wanna add stuff afterwards it's possible, however I also know some manufacturers are now building wiring looms specific to the options chosen (pros being cheapness and less weight but cons meaning that anyone changing their mind about what specs they want now can't just add stuff)

I have found on a Colt that all the wiring for the front spots was present so you just needed to change the switch.

Wish I had taken the £165 option as it was a spit in the ocean on £12.5k for the car. It was not the money but I just did not think I would ever use it. However for some reason I get ankle ache after about 90 mins with the Ibiza. Have cruise in my Volvo C70 and use it all the time.

It's well worth it tho, I've had it on several on my previous cars and it's mint, about 160 of my 180 miles each day are done on motorways, and whilst the evening drive home is hit and miss with traffic, the drive to work (leave at 5am) is usually clear and will be mint to just press SET and forget for the next hour and a bit! Especially like I say with all these average speed cameras about!!

Yeah the ave speed camera's are a pain. Did a 10 mile stretch on the M25 this summer in the C70 with the cruise set at 50 mph dead. I also have a gps speedo (talex / novus) in both my cars for speed camera's etc, take no chances these days.

I can activate it before the stalks are installed if it makes it easier so when they're plugged in you're ready to go!

As far as I know, yes. They did it as part of the deal when I bought the car off of them. I said I'll take the car on the condition that they fit CC to it. (my PX has CC and I didn't want to loose it) They took it back in a week when the parts arrived and it was quite a quick job.

They said that they had done diesel mk4's before but mine was the first 1.8t mk4 they had done.

Then they started selling it as an upgrade to loads of the cars that they sold (£250 I think)

If it was a quick job then perhaps the wiring is present on the face lift. Still not confident in removing the wheel but that would be so much easier.

My old one in question was a pre facelift I think. (05 reg FR 1.8t)

The plug behind that goes into to the stalks are numbered 1-36 (I think) the pins slot in there. The plug is numbered and easy'ish to read. Pin 10 slots into the bulk head. The spare wire goes to fuse 18 in the fuse box and the XS3 plugs into the Control Module.

I do have an installation guide however, it's in German!
