Hello again I am thinking of changing the gearbox oil on my Ibiza 1.2, engine code azq. The car has done 138k and runs well. It is a 5spd manual box.

I wondered if the proper oil for this is g052171a2?

Thanks, I've tried to work out my gearbox code but can't decipher the boot info sticker.

Very tempted to refill with Fuchs sintofluid 75w gl4 which meets this spec instead of the OEM which is supposedly febi billstein 21829.

I think all 5 speed use the oil I mention above.
Just to be sure give me the year of your car.
OEM costs around 15€ per litre at the dealer so why go for others?

I have to add that my info indicates that OP was correct, that the oil for the 5-speed MQ200 'box is G052171, which is a fully-synthetic, SAE 75W, GL-4 oil (although don't assume that any oil of this type is necessarily suitable or approved).

I think it depends on the year.
If in fact it is that one it is a lot costly.

I think it has a 02T transmission but that's inferred as I can't see any transmission code on the sticker.

75W oil is much more expensive than more run of the mill 75w-90 or 80w-90.

Opie oils might be able to help, they stock a large range of gear oil and can cross-reference with VW spec numbers if you need?

I'm a great believer in Fuch's oils VAG are for ever altering spec' codes(and a bloody pain) and you will find Opie helpful and great service at reasonable prices (usual disclaimers apply :) )

Looks like they've switched alot of vehicles over to G052512A2, probably because it's just a better quality oil and gives better protection.

Personally I think you'll be fine with either as they all seem to be SAE 75W GL4 oils.

Many thanks all. I have bought some G052512a2. Is the drain plug 17mm or splined?

No, I found a couple of bottles cheap on eBay so took a chance on them. I may confirm with dealer before pouring it in.

that oil is cheap at the delaer, around 15€, if it were me I would buy there giving my registration number just to be sure...

the one who is not cheap is g052171a2 which costs around 40€ per litre at the dealer or more...

Why? Although it's been a bit circuitous you and others have helped me identify the transmission and therefore the appropriate lubricants. I then found the vag branded lubricant at a third of the dealer price. My local dealer have been most unhelpful in the past so I'm not inclined to line their pockets.
