Hello all,

I have a 2013 - 63 plate Seat Leon 1.6tdi.

It originally has SAT NAV DAB RADIO etc and is the technology pack.

I bought this car with bits of damage - and unfortunately the stereo screen was broken.

I had a look around for some screens etc and ultimately decided that the original screen in the car is too small and I want something bigger.

Now I don’t like going aftermarket etc so bought a genuine Seat stereo Unit that has the 8 inch screen - part number: 5F0 919 606

This is from a 2018 Seat Leon MK3.5

I also got the SEAT EASYCONNECT MMI in the glove box to go with the screen - MIB2 as far as I understand.

The fitting was pretty straight forward - took the old bits out, and everything was plug and play - except one of the wires that connect to the rear of the screen. I had to modify the connector slightly - very easy - and it was all up and running. CP WAS REMOVED BY THE SELLER. Happy days!

Now the issue I have is that the cage that the new screen sits in is slightly different to the original one.

I can’t seem to figure out how to take the new screen out of the cage?? Any ideas?

The full heater cage sticks out quite a bit.

Or should I just modify the new cage?

If anyone is interested in the full installation, once I have completed it, I will make a video with step by step instructions.

Hi there,

Edit: Didn't read your story well.

You have to fit the new screen in the 'old' trim to make this work.

You can't fasten the new trim in an non-facelift car

When I changed my screen from 6.5 inch to 8 inch I also purchased it with the heater vents etc and then found like you that it wouldn't fit so I had to modify the existing screen aperture to enable the 8 inch screen to fit.
Unlike the 6.5 screen the 8 inch screen does not have the slots to enable easy removal, you have to release the it from the rear of the screen, if you look at the photo you can see the four tabs that have to be pushed inwards to release, I found that I could do one at a time.

Thanks for the reply! So what I’ve understood from your experience is that to remove the 8 inch screen, there are some plastic tabs that need to be ‘unclipped’. I didn’t dare try as I didn’t want to break the housing but I will give it a shot and get back to you. Will the 8inch screen fit in the original housing?

Thanks

If you look at the picture I have arrowed the tabs that need to be pushed back (they are metal not plastic), the original housing will need to be cut about to remove bits so the new screen will fit. Try using Google, there was a video of it being done.

Just a quick update -

I’ve managed to fit the 8inch screen in to the original mk3 housing. Pictures are attached. I used a multi tool to remove the plastic ‘lip’ on the heater housing.

The hardest bit of it is getting the MIB 2 to fit back into the glovebox compartment

If anyone ever wants to do the conversion and needs any help let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

Snap, it's the only thing that sucks on my car.

agreed, but I fear the mod will be far too expensive for me. I would love waze maps on the big screen, but for the little time I use it, not worth the cost

Cost wise - it was approx £435 including all postage and packaging with CP removed. I just need to fit in a USB port now so I can use the full link

I'm looking to do this mod in the next couple of days and could do with a hand I need to removed component protection off of the head unit.

Where about's did you buy yours from without component protection?

I've also manged to find the usb and wiring from a guy on ebay who was selling it for £79 but lowered it to £62 as he said it went on sale

Hi...Component protection will not get this unit working properly, you will be able to get it installed and when it senses it is in the wrong vehicle all the media features will shutdown and you will be left with a very expensive radio !
There is a workaround/fix for this but one of the steps involves opening the headunit and modifying the internals as well as adding a component protection filter to block out the vans CP signal and it starts to get expensive, unless you got this cheap and can guarantee it’s never been powered up outside of the original vehicle then it’s prob not worth pursuing

Does anyone know if you can swap just the screen out on a MIB2 setup with the 6.5" screen for the 8" screen?

Did you buy the screen and glovebox unit off ebay? Was the full link activated? Did the units require any extra coding to your vehicle?
