Hey guys so I'm always looking at the next project and i would love a track car. there is no way wifey would let me strip down our family "Man Wagon" 1m Cupra so im looking for a track car. Ofcourse I would love it to be a 1m 4x4 cupra like what i have to stay in the cupra family with both cars would be pretty cool. how much money it costs to run is another question haha. Cars im thinking of, EG civic with b18c4, A4 B5 1.8t Quattro, e36 328i, and a 4x4 Cupra 1.8t.

Main question should I look for a shell and build it up? or look for a complete car and strip it down? Maybe with a blown turbo or head gasket or something. I have here a few examples. both 4x4 cupras here in Germany. See below

Red one has no turbo and a bit of rust, some missing interior pieces. Asking 2000 euros

The shell is really bare bones no engine and tranny. Steering rack steering wheel. But rest of drivetrain is there. Has alot of parts laying around. Asking 1000

Anyone know how much the costs are to run these fancy 1m 20vts as track cars? Obviously something like an EG civic would be cheap to run and still fun when done right and not riced out like a california teenager in high school mimicking fast and furious with cut springs and carrying his steering wheel around school.

VW parts are cheap and everywhere, civic eg ej are becoming rust buckets and nothing but hassle unless you spend a few grand and then....would you want to track it hard? B18c4 block is getting rare or cost £600/£1000 and that bear block. 1.8t on the other hand is everywhere, ko4 kit will push it to 230whp ko3 200ish if lucky and it will leave a b18c4 for dust, my old ko3 18psi was stripped out back didn't matter too much as a b18c4 ej9 stripped couldn't keep up. You want a civic get an ep3 type R but keep an eye on the oil and oil temps or face big rebuild bills. Then cupra 4x4 cost the same to run as a S3 (lots and lots) if things go wrong....money pit. Nice idea but costly at best, FWD cupra won't cost as much and you can fix most thing on the drive.

Don't get me wrong, I like most if not all on here would love to have the chance to buy a right hand drive (as standard!) Cupra 4x4 but we didn't get a look in unfortunately.

A cupra track build would certainly be of interest on here although there are a few out there so would have to make it something different. I personally would find something cheap and lightweight (saxo or 106) bang a k20 engine in and enjoy the crazy power to weight. Everyone has different tastes so it depends what floats your boat.

It being a 4x4 is different ;)

B18 parts aren't that rare to come by in mainland Europe, ofcourse the 1.8t is in everything. So I see what you're saying there. I would say the Leon's are also rusting pretty often just gotta find one with less rust. The idea of an eg civic is more or less cheap track car, easy to work on, simplistic design, etc. Naturally aspirated power is simpler than turbo power.

As for the 4x4 quattro system in the leon it's not only the S3 it's also the same as the TT, Golf mk4 4motion, and A3 Quattro. So being in Germany it's not too hard or too expensive compared to an S3.

I already own a Cupra 4x4 1.8t maybe that'll just have to turn into a full fledged track car and I get a "family car" like fiesta that gets good gas mileage Haha

Saxo isn't good for safety, I got rid because of this.

If you can readily get hold of B18 block then I'd run that.
Nah, get a TDi Leon if it's mileage you're after :D
Miss the fact my TDI seemed to run on nothing.
1.8t v's 1.9tdi
1.8t would beat it but 1.9tdi will just drive past as 1.8t fills up.
Saying that though....I'd never go back to tdi

Economy car for the lady only NA power. Much simpler less to go wrong. My leon 4x4 even stripped out would be street legal and my car to drive. I bike to work so it's not daily, just when I want to go to shows or fun.

Just bought a LCR track car and considering a 4x4 conversion to keep me busy over winter / get divorced over

Lol just come buy this shell here in Germany and swap all you need over. Bring a trailer and have 500 songs on your playlist... get to driving. Easiest way to do the conversion

He's got it for best offer. It's been up over a month now, has all the running gear minus the engine.

I can’t speak German or read it but there’s no guide on price. What’s that even worth? And is that something I can put into my Leon or would it need to be the other way round?

No it would all go into your leon with minimal effort as for 4x4 swaps go. There is a guy on here I think he did a swap from an s3 and omg the ******* work he had to do to merge the bodies.... ******* nuts.

You'll have to use all the 4x4 parts for suspension and drivetrain even the gas tank... slightly modify the trunk to compensate for the rear diff and good to go.

Also as i said before its up for offer your best price. I would give him maybe 500 euros for the car. Nothing more.

I can chat with him if you're interested. Most people here in Germany speak English.

I'm American but I've been here 18 months and can now speak enough German :D

Let me have a think and see what’s what. I’m feeling a weekend road trip with a van full of tools I don’t need another car taking space up!!

There is a thread on here with a blue auq cupra, he chopped out a TT back end and merged them together, car was sold before it was completed....you would be better buying this and converted to rhd but that's a lot of money and time. I've thought about it but when I asked my insurance company they told me to #### right off. AXA won't touch import of custom cars and trust me it's not age related lol.

500 euro is a cracking deal though. May need (some) work but still. Does the cupra 4×4 not hold value??

And if you use Google Chrome it has a translator built in.

I picked up my 20vt4 for 1400 euros with 81k miles and a blown 3rd gear.

It's not that they don't hold value, I mean it is an 17 year old Seat.

It has more to do with here in Germany if the car needs mechanical work and doesn't have "Tüv" inspection approval then its value shoots waaaaayyyyy down. More of a law and culture thing. Germans want to buy cars that already abide by the law and they don't have to worry about inspection. Buying a car in Germany normally comes with a 1 year guarantee even on the used market, obviously with a car with no TÜV that would be disregarded. They don't like that.
