I noticed today that the car is now due an oil service in 30 days. The car is leased through Nationwide Vehicle Contracts/ ALD Automotive and I expected the car to be on the Long Life Service plan, can anyone advise, should it be or will I have to get the oil service carried out? Car is just over a year old now and covered about 6k miles.

Thought I would ask on here before contacting the lease company.

Yes, I realise this but with it being a lease car can I get it changed to long life?

Hi mate. Mine was with Nationwide as a broker too, and despite me asking them prior to delivery, they didn't get the dealer to set it to long life either.

Depending on whether you have a 2 or 3 year lease term you were probably always going to need to fork out for at least one service. Just get your servicing garage to set it to longlife now. Nationwide or rather the finance lease company won't care whether you get it set to longlife or not. As long as it's being serviced with manufacturer guidelines which it will be.
Incidentally I am with ALD automotive and have leased with them before. They're a fair bunch.
Who is your leasing company?

In my experience just give them a call to find out, most are usually quite helpful and pragmatic.

Thanks very much for explaining. I’ll get the dealer to change it over for me when I put it in. It was through Nationwide.

Sounds good. Bear in mind Nationwide are only a broker and your lease company will be someone else. Your ongoing contractual relationship is with the leasing company not Nationwide.

My lease is on longlife, i was sold a service package of 3 services, but as it showed up on longlife i only need 1 during my lease term.

what appeared to be a bargain has in fact turned the other way. Been ripped off haven’t i

Mine is definitely on the variable 'long life' service intervals. Its wanting a service after 13 months or 7000miles. I paid for the Seat service plan which gives 2 services, so that should see me through the 3 year lease just about.

The longer your trips are the longer the intervals will get and you can see the count down in the menu, but it seems like once its committed itself to the 30 day warning it doesn't change.

With VW’s service plans you get two services; an oil change service (basically oil and filter change) and an oil and inspection service. The car needs to be on the time and distance service regime if you buy the service plan - so service intervals are the sooner of 12 months or 10,000 miles. .

Looking at the Seat website, their service plans also cover two services, so it sounds as if you may have a dealer’s own service plan, rather than the official Seat one. Whichever plan you’ve got, I’d be getting the dealer to change the service regime to time and distance and making use of the services you’ve paid for.

My service plan included the variable or fixed schedule. Ive checked and it covers 2 services, when the car asks for them. Most owners wouldnt even know the 2 different schedules exist.

This is the note in small print at the bottom of the web page on Seat’s website; link below - states cars should be on fixed (time and distance) servicing under Seat’s service plans;

‘Monthly payments are spread over 24 months. All cars must be set to the fixed service regime by the Dealer. Terms and conditions apply. Offer is available to retail customers only from participating SEAT Authorised Repairers. Offers may be varied or withdrawn at any time. Additional work, including wear and tear or additional mobility option is excluded. Servicing must be carried out in line with the requirement of the service schedule. All work must be carried out at a SEAT Authorised Repairer. Plan validity is dependent on required payments received. Administered by SEAT Financial Services, Freepost SEAT Financial Services‘

Dealer said it wasnt a problem. If it is then I was mis-sold and will want a refund.

Should be noted that my plan was over 18 months not 24 and was a different price.

Double checked with the dealer.

They said in my cars case its asked for a service after 13 months, which isnt unusual even with the fixed plan, so it may well be on the fixed plan. Either way it shouldn't be an issue, Seat will just require its changed to fixed if its not already at the first service.

I’ve booked my car in for the oil service and the service department quoted me £189.99, ouch!!
Thought that’s a bit steep for just an oil service, they also informed me that I’m on the wrong service schedule and should be on the fixed service plan as I’m not doing a lot of miles however I don’t think they taken into account that the last 3/4 months the car has hardly moved. Is £189.99 the goi rate for an oil service and can I stipulate the service schedule I want on the car?

Yeah thats the standard price. Its about the same for most manufacturers give or take.

Although they only change the oil and filter they also check things and do any software updates.
