They told me once in a 3 months to come them for a wash, about 40£ and in a meantime to clean it in selfservice washing pits without sponge or cloth, just water pressure.

I decided not to, after getting a few quotes. This may or may not have been prompted by lockdown where I started learning to detail my car properly (and had sheds load of time to do it). I don't regret not getting it done and 1year in it's still easy to wash and looks good (thanks to copious hours of my labour though). I will probably contemplate getting the car polished and coated next year though. When its a couple of years old the £500-£1000 pricetag to make it look mint again might not be too bad and I will definitely not be giving it as much love by then.

Had a full front end ppf installed and the rest of the paint coated as well as the wheels and callipers.

Froy, do you mind sharing approx costs for the ppl and ceramic coating ?

I actually work for XPEL so was able to do it all myself. Used our ceramic coatings too as well as the paint protection film. I’m more than happy to answer any question or concerns people have with these products.

What parts did you cover with PPF? Could you apply it over the creases (for example lights area) in a single sheet or is it cut at the points where body has sharp angles.

Does the price differ from place to place? There is a shop not too far from me that offer the "Fusion Plus Ceramic Coating" but I am unable to access the site on my work network. Do you know what the average cost of this service might be?

The front bumper is in one piece around the light area, just has a seam as the bottom which you cant even notice wont they join up. I covered the Full bonnet, wings including the grey arches, bumper and all the trims, mirrors and headlights.

The cost can depend on the shops and area but shouldn't be by that much. For the areas I've listed above it should be around £1200-£1400. coating the car will add another couple of hundred. It can be pricey because applying the films or coatings are labour intensive.

Id highly recommend at least a coating to help maintain the paintwork and if anyone is going for the matte paint option then even more so. They can be a real nightmare to clean and can only use certain types of products.

I wanted to PPF front bumper, it seems like an obvious choice, it is one piece that covers whole front of the car with ability to wrap a whole panel to hide the PPF.

In the end didn't do it, in my country there aren't many good PPF shops.

I put on a ceramic coating though.

How much does just the ceramic coating normally go for?

I had it on my current BMW and it just makes it so much easier to keep clean.

This is the bumper pre cut pattern we have for the car, its full coverage. The film will always sit 1mm from the edge otherwise it will never stick and lift.

It can range, we normally charge around £495. with coatings though its all about the prep. If the car is brand new the prep work is a lot easier

I have ordered Matt blue for my VZ3, planning to get as much film coating as affordable. Good to know ceramic on brand new needs less prep. Would you recommend straight from dealer to body shop leaving the delivery protection material in place?

With the matte paint there isn’t much prep work you can do apart from a deep clean, can’t polish matte paint.

regarding the delivery material depends if you’re going for paint protection film or just a coating. If its just a coating then remove it but if you’re wanting to avoid stone chips then you can keep it on and get it booked in as soon as possible to avoid driving and reducing the chance of a stone chip!

As I'm having mine in a lease,I'm not investing in a £500 plus costing for the benefit of the next keeper to have for free but i will be decontaminating it,re waxing it properly and using the autoglym ceramic detailer to maintain it through my ownership.

Have you ever leased before? The only reason I considered it was to prevent any unwanted charges for surface damage (how ever minor, like stone chips etc). If you have leased, what is the exchange like? How anal are they?

I had a few cars on lease before (MB Finance and VWFS) and was never charged for any damage to the paint, except one obvious scratch on a bumper caused by myself. My first lease car front looked like someone shot at it with machine gun. It had a lot of stone chips due to high speed driving in Germany.

There are better and worse cars for stone chips damage, depends on the shape of the front. Formentor should be ok, it has big grill and is a bit taller. I think the worst cars for damage are the ones with low and long bonnet.

If someone leases from VWFS, I wouldn't worry about charges. They are rather lenient and their fees are low, comparing to fixing damage or protecting the car.

If you are at all ocd about looking after your cars, you will have no issues.

They will generally allow one decent chip per wheel,a small dent to a door and light scratching etc...i.e reasonable general wear and tear and not taking the piss.

I don't allow my cars to get into that state in the first place as I'm very particular and clean and detail them regularly, lol.

I have always got my cars ceramic coated as it just makes general maintenance so much easier.

the one comment I would make is that the cost really depends on the standard of the original paint and the level of paint correction / prep work undertaken. This absolutely applies to brand new cars. My GT4 (porsche) which most would agree as one of the best factory standards of paint and was trailered to the detailer had nearly three days of prep before the ceramic coating was applied and then the car was left to cure for a full 24 hours. The difference was night and day.

Also remember not to touch the car (clean) for at least 7 days after the coating is applied to allow the coating to fully harden.
