Been looking for a newer, bigger, diesel(ier) Leon to replace my 2011 1.2tsi for a while and have my heart set on a 2.0 TDI FR 184 ST as it ticks all the boxes. The problem is that it states that it's £160 a year in road tax when I was pretty sure it should be £35???
All my research shows that it should be in the lower band as it both a manual not DSG and registered in Oct '16. Am I right or could it be wrongly banded? Any help welcome, thanks.
 
Why do you think it should be lower ? you are looking at a 2.0lt 184 so I don't believe it should be lower
Simply because all the other 184s I have looked at have been in the lower band. Just can't figure out why this one is different.
 
I found this when I bought a 2017 diesel Leon back in 2019. I was expecting to pay no or £35 road tax, but the dealer said that the government had changed the cart tax rules. So I pay £140

That was my first thought but it was registered before the Dec '16 cut off. Just curious, not putting me off.
 
The emissions for that car are 121g/km

So it falls in band D which is £160

You need to look at an earlier car that falls in to band B or C
My sons 2014 184 is 109 g/kg and falls in band B

You can check a car's CO2 rating on .gov website. https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/VehicleFound?locale=en

That car is listed as: 121g/km which is group D so the higher group than £35 'C'.
It has 18" wheels - sometimes bigger wheels can bump it into the next tax bracket.

As Deano and superv8 say the older ones are the cheaper tax. I believe 2016 was when the emissions were changed following the scandal. For example my old 150tdi was 35 quid due to being 112g/km but a 2015 is 20 quid as it is 106g/km
 
Thanks guys, I was aware of most of this except for the alloy size. Couldn't understand why some were under and some were over. Guess that solves it. Anyway I'm off to buy me a car that costs me an extra £125 a year for an extra inch of alloy. ?

My May 2016 184FR hatchback with 18" alloys is £35 (118 g/km). It'll be either that your one is a few months newer or something to do with it being an ST. In this case, I can't see it being the alloy size, as mine was available with 17" or 18" and both at the same tax. On Autotrader, an April 2016 184FR hatchback with 17" alloys is still 118 g/km at £35.

I'm "looking" at Audi A4 Avant's and the 2.0tdi quattro's with 17/18" wheels creep under 120g/km - so £35, but the ones with 19" (from the factory" are something like 121/122g/km so £160.
The ST has slightly higher CO2 than the hatch - so the larger wheel may edge it out.
 
Doesn't matter anyway now, phoned up this morning to put a deposit down and it's been sold! Which one of you bought it?!? ?

I guess this is why it became popular for "Dealer Fit Options"

The car leaves the factory with the lower declared emissions - then the dealer fits options before delivery.
