Im gonna try again today after work

Hi there,

quick question, I retrofitted a new Steering Wheel with capacitive detection. Everything is coded for Travel Assist hc_variant 2 (without Lane change) works relatively fine, although it sometimes randomly drives to far on the left / right, but I think that’s probably normal.

Also have set Emergency Assist hc_variant 4, changed it to 2 for testing purposes and have the following issues here with both ea variant 2 and 4:

The emergency assist fully applies brakes, horn works, warning lights flash. Everything seems good. Car stops.
But after a few seconds emergency assist turns off, the horn stops, the car just starts rolling.
This would be in a real life scenario probably still better than crashing somewhere with full speed, but I want to check, why this issue happens and if I am the only one affected by this.
Maybe someone even has found a solution for it?

Thanks in advance!

Excellent guide, thank you. I'm confused if I need to go the full scale of a new wheel or not?

I've just ordered a 21 plate Leon hybrid xcelence and stupidly thought ACC/TA was standard. I've realised I don't have the button on what I've ordered.

I do have a heated wheel and lane assist. Do I still need a whole wheel, or can I get away with new buttons and coding?

It was a distance sale so I'm considering cancelling before it gets too far down the line if it's too hard to add

Travel Assist is dependent on the capacitive steering wheel. The car most probably doesn't have it but if you can get the VIN from the seller, we can look it up just to make sure.

Yeah, this is what I don't understand how to find out for myself. In my limited understanding, if the wheel can do lane assist, surely it should be able to do the rest - but I appreciate it might not be that simple.

Let me get the VIN and come back to you, thanks

Standard Lane Assist uses your steering wheel inputs to sense whether you're holding the wheel or not. But that's not accurate because you might actually be holding the wheel but keeping it perfectly straight where the system can interpret that as if you're not holding the wheel.

A capacitive steering wheel has multiple sensors inside the wheel so the system can accurately detect if you're really holding it.

Thanks for explaining. Do you know if ACC can work without the rest of the TA functions? It's the only part I'm really interested in. Changing the wheel and messing with the airbag is a bit daunting to me, not to mention cost
