Compared to previous TFSI engined SEAT's, the FL Cupra sounds amazing and completely different.

It almost sounds like a V6 with an open cone filter. It does sound like induction noise but its probably not because the airbox is exactly the same as earlier models.

It could be the exhaust, but it sounds like all the noise is coming from the engine bay.

Any ideas ?? All i know is its so addictive its putting my MPG down into the teens!!

I reckon its just the design of the engine cover myself and what you hear is induction roar.

When I drove the Cupra R, I noticed the difference, but the FL Cupra sounds almost identical to the Cupra R.

Ah that makes sense. It has a mix of v6 howl, subaru boxer rumble and almost diesel-esk sounds thrown in there. Has me hitting the rev limiter regularly lol.

I thought it was induction noise at first Al.

I put my other engine cover/airbox fro the TFSI Sport onto the Cupra and it sounded exactly the same.
Have a few bits to go on the car over time and was worried about losing the growl by changing the intake and exhaust.

It could be the ehaust as well as the sound piping. The downpipe and cat-back look identical to the previous Cupra

I wonder if the sound piping can be retro-fitted to other models to enhance the enine noise ??

Am going to have a good look under the car in the morning to see what the score is :)

I don't know whether to laugh or cry

I recently found out that the sweet sound of the FL Cupra comes from a speaker in the bulkhead . . . . it's an electronic sound generator !! A speaker in a box !! WTF ??

The same goes for the Mk5 Ibiza Cupra/Boc

Should I be dissapointed? There is no denying it sounds good. It's been mentioned a lot how good the Cupra / R sounds compared to earlier TFSI's, but I just feel dissapointed now I know where the sound comes from . . . . . . . . . should have left things be and not looked into it. I almost feel ashamed

Cars can sound good or bad. If it sounds good, does it matter if its the Intake/Induction, Performance Exhaust, Recirc Valve or Electronic Speaker in a Box thingy ??

When Im out in the car and driving it hard it sounds amazing and I cant get enough of it, my MPG would be much better if it didn't sound so good. But when I stop to think about where the sound is coming from I just feel dissapointed. The idea of a speaker behind the dash is f***ing lame and I'm having trouble getting my head around it . . . . .

lol omg I did wonder what was different to my new Cupra R compared to my previous Golf GTI Ed30. The sounds def comes from the front and not, as you'd expect, from the two bean cans out the back. But Ive thought to listen to one outside - thats a job for the tomorrow.

I saw that SoundRacer thing on 5th Gear a while back - not quite a mickey mouse as that, but probably more like the "symposer" on the Focus?

I'd be surprised if the exhaust is anything more than a hybrid of Golf GTI + R32 bits?

Wonder if theres any control over it; a way to put it in "wife friendly" mode?
