Sorry guys this is rubbish, try driving your cupra with the rear seats folded down………how does the sound generator/speaker compensate for this and make the noise louder, you can tell when you plant your foot on the accelerator the noise is exhaust noise and louder with the seats down. Maybe fit a bigger speaker you will think the cars going faster…….don’t think so!
compeletely agree:lol: it is just the way you perceive the speed, sound etc.... when you accelerate viewing pedestrians and trees on your left - speed effect is much bigger:)

I did try the "folded down seat" style also when transported home some granny's rubbish, sounds like an aircraft after 3000rpm:cartman:

Just wanting to know what the outcome of this was?
My mum has just bought a new Golf GTI, I test drove it myself and.... OH MY GOD!!! It sounds gorgeousss!!! Better then my Ibiza Cupra!
Just wondering whether it had it fitted aswell?

you need to read the thread again seriously.....

When i test drove a new cupra a few weeks back i noticed a very different sound coming from the engine bay when accelerating...

salesman just said, "yeah sounds good dont it"

Hi guys,

Golf R also got this feature...and I bet new GTI 2011 too.

GTI VI pre 2011 had some kind of piping to route some induction from intake into the cabin.

It seems today it is about a speaker...

Does anyone know how to unplug this little wannabe? Where is it located? I would like to unplug and see how car sounds.

I bet it does simulate induction noise while accelerating at low rpm. I think when turbo starts building pressure.

Hi all

digging up an old thread. I have just installed a new sound system in my FL cupra and couldnt understand why it sounded better on the driveway but the sound got worse when driving. Tyre noise will affect it i know but there was something else getting in the way, its the fake sound speaker. It's called a 'soundaktor' on VW's. There are some very long posts on the USA Golf & VW forums discussing it - google soundaktor. I decided to disconnect mine last night. The car has lost that full on rasp but it is a much quieter cruise now and the sound system now sounds fantastic on the move. If you want to disconnect it yourself it is loceted under the scuttle that houses the wiper motors. I managed to get to it by pulling back the weather strip from the cowl and bending the plastic cowl up enough to get a long nose pair of pliers in to disconnect the lead. It looks like a black hockey puck. I think I'll connect a switch in the cabin so I can turn it on or off depending on my mood.

I didn't click on the links, but a guy at work hasan CLS AMG and he told me that his car has a speaker too. I found that hard to believe, I argued his discovery....turns out its true. Damn, who needs a fake noise with a supercharged V8?! Criminal.

Just been to disconnect mine. IMO, the sound now is much better, a nice smooth natural engine note, no more rasp that sounds like there's a leak somewhere. It is awkward to get to, I got to it as Chopperh. For anyone wishing to disconnect it, there is a white 'T' shaped locking bar on the underside of the connector. Just get something with a hook on and pull it out. The connector then pulls off very easily.

sorry to dig up an already dug up thread, but Ive been looking to get this thing disconnected ever since I had the car! So it is easy to do? Anyone have any pics or know of a step by stpe how to get at it?

cheers!

doh, cant believe it was that easy!

Oh well, after 2 years, finally the mickey mouse sound has gone... :D

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but do you know if this is on the drivers side or passenger side, been trying to remove/ disable it this morning and I can't find it!

Its kind of central or slightly towards passenger side if anything. Google it to find out what it looks like then it'll be very obvious. The plug goes in on the left side if u look at it from under the bonnet

Do you have to remove any bits of trim from under the bonnet to get at it? I've removed the weather seal and there's not a lot of room behind there except to the sides.
