As for straight line performance I have got a remapped Ibiza Cupra 1.8t (approx 190bhp) and I had a quick comparison against my friend in a standard 210 LCR and there was nothing in it from about 30 to 100 mph.
I recently had a comparison with a 04 plate 182 from 60 to 110 and again there was nothing in it.

So the LCR 210 should be similar to your Clio 172.

Handling wise I would say your old Clio has the edge but the Leon is far more grown up and refined.

With the extra 20bhp and goodness knows what torque, dare I say (and feel free to call me names for saying this) that your friend in his LCR wasn't making the best use of the power available? I'm aware there wont be a night and day difference, but 20bhp is enough to make strides on you.

I disagree!! The ibiza should keep up with it no problem...

You ll find a lot of half decent cars can stick close to you up to around 70mph. Yesterday I had an MX5 stuck to my *ss between 30-70 mph but anything over that and the LCR is still surging as others start gasping. You ll find you tend to run out of enough private roads to really waste the chav army!

Driving style will be the key, try flooring a turbo and granny gripe in his 1.6 silver Civic will leave you off the lights, 3 - 5rpm is where you ll have all the fun!

went from the same mate, vts, 172 and 225 lcr, the leon is faster due to the torque, 2nd out of a roundabout and it will pull so much better than the clio. handeling is the vts, no understeer at all! i loved it that much i bought the wife another when i had the clio!good look with the motor mate, you will love it.

I've got both the 182 and the LCR - both very good cars, but very different.

IMO nothing in it between them in normal driving (the driver will make more difference than the car) - obviously, you can make a pretty big gap once you spend some money on the Leon...

Ive come from s2k to LCR and enjoying it, miss the raw feeling of the s2k but in general the LCR is a nice alrounder. Still struggling with the LCR on getting a fast standing start maybe its the Traction control thats needs turning off.

RobM, I was as surprised as you as I expected the LCR to show me a clean pair of heels.
I then looked at the kerbweights: Ibiza 1119kg and Leon 1376kg guess this might explain it. (A bit off topic I know)

according to my very sketchy "calculations" on pure BHP this is....if the ibiza was 190bhp then the leon at that weight would have to be 235bhp to match it but thats not including torque etc etc

AH! I'm sorry, I misread the Ibiza bit and thought we were talking about Leons still. In that case, I take it back entirely!

I came down the same upgrade path as you, the LCR is definately the best hot hatch I've had. I liked the Clio, but it really isn't a great motorway car, and once you get the LCR remapped there is no car like it for the money.

As said by other posts, getting a remapped LCR off the line, especially if its damp is really difficult, even second will spin qute happily, but once over 3k revs and the car grips there are very few cars that will stay with it.

Watch the speed as 110 mph in the LCR feels like 70 in the Clio !

Thanks for ya help guys, seems like a few people came the same path as me. heh.

Well, picked it up last night. Very happy. Its such a nice car to drive slowly. Now i know why i never see any LCRs driven hard.

Took it on the A64 dual carriage way last night, it did feel the same as the clio up to about 70, then it was just like a different beast. Where i expected the speed to not increase quite so rapidly, it just kept going and going. I eased off as i am not 100% used to the car yet.

Theres an annoying rattle that i will have to find, hate them - and the back drivers light is cracked so i'll be taking that back.... But all in all, very happy.

Lovely car mate, make sure you give it a good detail :)

On the Clio 172 front. I had a little play with one last night and gave him a good pasting. He was driving quite hard, you could hear his zorst going crazy so maybe he didnt make good on his gear changes.

goddamnit, they never told me that at Seat !
t***s

I asked what had been changed, they said the Gear Knob so i got them to put a proper Cupra R one back on.
I am now wondering what else might be different.

Theres a massive oval exhaust on the back, when you look inside it there are 2 smaller circular holes. Please tell me thats the standard exhaust.
