Hi Im posting this on behalf of my sister who is having problems with her 07 plate 1.2.
Basically the cars revs will rise and fall erraticly when the car is idling, anything between 500 and 1200rpm and also turning the air-con on will cause the engine to stall even when driven at speed!
The car has been to 2 differant dealers countless times and apparently doesnt show any codes?
So far they have changed the fan belt, new cylinder head, all injectors and a new air-con unit. all of which hasnt cured the problem. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks in advance David

any chance it could be the timing chain? seems like a fairly common problem on the 1.2

i'd also try new sparkplugs if its done some good milage

whens the service due? its amazing the difference of an oil and filter change does...

although it does sound like the timing chain, but i would've thought a garage would have looked at that when doing the diagnostics.

Mine did this when the timing chain slipped slightly..then it slipper further and screwed the engine. I would get the timing chain checked asap just incase. Not saying it will be. I no nothing about engines :D

hi, i had a problem like this about 10 days ago, mine doesnt have aircon but whenever you packed off the gas it just wanted to die all the time, even when ticking over it was dropping and rising. what had happened was the timing chain had stretched and therefor the valves were not opening properly, which lead to the engine not knowing how much fuel was coming or goingg, i hope this helps

Thanks for your help guys. She is going to ring the dealer up again 1st thing monday and update SEAT UK on the situation as she is understandably getting very tired of paying alot of money a month for a car thats spends most of its time at the garage
