Hi i was wondering i'm due to drive from leeds to cornwall in a few weeks and wanted to know how many miles i would be able to do on a full tank of juice, as i have only had my motor a few months and i have not filled it to the brim yet cheers............... Danny

I reckon bout 280miles-300miles, not sure on the MPG (combined) figures for the 1.4 sport. I get 280-290miles outta my Cupra, and if i drive sensibly can get 35-38 mpg.

i have managed 330 ish a few times in my 1.4 petrol 100bhp, but that was driving extreamly carefully, on some rear occations i have returened 375 on tank (looking at my mpg/milage data, i know sad and should be a on doing that)

Do a search for venting, this will enable you to put an extra £10 in the tank after the nozzle starts clicking. Don't leave the car in the sun direclty after you have vented the tank or it can expand the fuel and some can escape.

i manage a 330ish miles a tank on a daily commute consisting with windy B roads, fast dual carridge A road and a sprinkle of stop starts.

37mpg out a tank doing rush hour stop-start driving in my 1.4 Sport.

I think my "record" is 358 miles out of a tank, just short of my ultimate record (362 miles) set by a 1990 Mk.2 VW Polo!

I'm not exactly a law abiding driver (no tickets yet.....) but before i got my FR i had an 08 sport 100bhp and i used to consistantly get 340 miles on a tank that was commuting over a week (my average mpg was 39 believe it or not) with the a/c and stereo blurring my utterly awful music.

If you do the same on straight down the motorway i think you should get close to 380.

one thing to bare in mind i had my car from new, so i ran it in myself and drove it like an old man for the 1st 2000 miles to ensure it was bedded in propery.

Also bare in mind i mainly do motorway miles 80 miles a day so my engine was run fully treated well, i think alot will depend on the previous owners and how they treated the car.

I find it depends on what Petrol you use, I get the best mileage out of a full tank Shell Optimax (around 350-ish) if i'm driving "normally", when I fill up with Tesco or generally any other supermarket fuel i'm luckly to get over 300 miles.

It'll also bepends on how heavy your right foot is and if your doing motorways or not.

A bit anorakish - YES - but you will begin to notice right away if something is not quite right - I've done that for years, even before fuel computers appeared and its helped me notice things like slightly dragging brakes and "going off" plugs.

O ouch, closet experiance i got was with the powers that be and her luggage going to heathrow, i got 36mpg on the way there and 41mpg on the way back once i dumped the baggage, and the suit cases (hopefully she wont read this.......... lol)

Easy 380

I have been doin some serious mileage this year in my 1.4 FS and have been closely monitoring my petrol consummation!!!! I reckon as long as your not doin over 80mph you should easily be gettin 380 miles out of a full tank.

I make it about 95 miles per £10 of fuel given the price of standard unleaded.

P.S my motor seems to have developed a nice air sounding "pssssssstt" as I change gear after about 4000rpm. Car has done about 12000. Have I just not noticed it before?

How on earth do you get 280-300 miles?! I only get that if i vent the tank and drive at 60 on the motorway til it runs out, usual driving gets me 230miles max

I tend not to brim mine, but if I stick 30 litre in it when the fuel light comes on, I need to refuel in about 230 miles.....about 6.3 to the litre.....doesn;t seem too good to me, as the car is driven fairly gently around town most of the time as a driving school car. I also use an old Corsa automatic for the same purpose snd get about the same fuel consumption in that.

Driving (or cruising) without having a heavy foot managed to get me about 380-400 out of my little 1.2 so I'd say an easy 340-350 if you do the same, that's if you don't get bored

Brimmed mine to the top the other dat and the trip says theres 325 miles in the tank.

The word is that this is not a good idea on petrol engines as they stop fumes escaping t atmosphere by stuffing them into a carbon filter and burning them later. If this system receives liquid instead of vapour then that can cause problems - or so a tech said on another site, and I've taken that onboard as sorting it out costs a bit of money! TDI engines of course do not have this problem. Its pretty simple refueling on a longish journey - you just need to know where your favourite brand is sold.

Not sure how accurate it is, but after filling up the trip computer says 280 miles, I have yet to see that though, i usually get around 250 (no motorway regular motorway driving at all)
