I think it always was this whiney but not sure, I changed many years ago to the hardest steering setting, so the least assistance from the pump but I could still hear it whining, no problem there, it was a normal level of noise I considered.
Today I changed back to the Cupra/GTI setting which I think it is the stock one, and oh boy as I'm steering inside the garage the whine is almost as loud as the engine, it's a faint electric noise but loud, this is the best description I can give without a video.
I changed the steering fluid 2 years ago and recently checked the level and it was perfect on the max mark.
Please tell me this is normal and I won't need a new steering pump in the future.
