1.8 16v KR from Golf Mk2 in Mk2 Ibiza???

Hi all,

First of all, I want you to excuse my bad english. I'll try to write that to understand me as far as impossible.

So I have a Mk2 Ibiza, 1.4 since 2005. At this moment there are a few changes that I was made to my car, like replacing the original air filter system with K&N cone filter (It's difficult to define that is there any effect of it). Someone say to me that the induction kit takes effect only on Full injection engines not on Mono-injection. I also replace the standard bumpers, with bumpers from 1999 Ibiza TDi, the interior (side/door panels and seats) is from the Mk3 2001 Ibiza, but it's not finished yet. Sorry about that I get departed too far from the main question that i have.

The question is: Does it will fit the Golf Mk2 1.8 16v KR engine (with ECU, Electric installation and gearbox) in my 1.4 ABD Mk2 Ibiza. Other possibility is the 2.0 16v ABF from Golf Mk3 or IBIZA/CORDOBA. I prefer the KR, but I don't know does it will fit on the mounting parts. I read for many engine conversions, but there is no such a foolery, like mines.

First of all I planned to replace the standard suspension and brakes. I want to replace my rear drum brakes with discs. Does it will fit a GTI golf mk3(or other model with rear disc brakes) rear axel to my IBIZA? I want the rear and front wheel mounting to be like the standard 4x100 between the bolts of the wheel, not 5x100 like the GTi golf.
I know that I have to change the front brakes (complete system), but with brakes from what model? I want the bigger I can fit with my 15" 7J wheels.
The drive shafts should be replaced too, to fit the gearbox. Should I have to change the original steering system?

I'll stop for now with the questions, to see what you will advise me. Please don't tell me to sell my car and buy a GTi. I know that, what I want to do will be expensive, but I want to make my car by myself and to make it that I want to be, ofcourse with the pricless help and advices of my friends and I hope the e new friends that I'll find here.

So, I hope that I'm not getting you into a mess and boring you.

Thanks in advance to anyobody can help me, I'll appreciate it.

Cheers,

AsenZo

I know the ABF goes in quite easily, not sure on the KR...

Brakes wise, you want 280mm set up on the front, from Ibiza GTi 16v, Golf VR6, etc

Drums will be fine on the back, unless you want to change to discs mainly for the looks, if you do then the rear beam from a Mk2 Ibiza GTi will be required.

I've got a feeling the 1.8 16v that was in the first 93-95 Ibiza was engine code ADL not KR don't know what the differences are but it may be worth investigating beofre you buy a doner engine.

the mk2 golf 1.8 8v/16v or 1.8 g60 or 2.0 16v out of a mk3 golf/ibiza mk2 will go in an ibiza as its got all the mount in the right place. brakes you can use mk2 ibiza gti/cupra/mk2 golf gti rear disks and stubs axles and calipers.
front brakes you nead to get new hubs disks and calipers from ibiza/golf 8v/16v

having owned a 1.816v ibiza gti and the cordoba sx 2.016v i would say got for the 2.016v,it much much better, but the gearing on the KR is much better than the ibiza 1.816v.
the rear axle is mk4 polo so i would look for this to convert to discs brakes/4x100.
as for converting to a KR engines front,is it really worth the money?the power output is not a massive amount.
as far as i know the mounting points are the same so just swapp0ing the whole subframe should be no problems

if you read through some of the importnat bits of this thread,i am sure some things will apply to you

The ADL lump is a KR lump with ABF injection bascially, think the ADL is slightyly more powerfrul than the KR (with K-Jet injection). The ADL and KR share the same head and bottom end, only a couple of differences

Thanks to everybody for the replies.

I choose KR instead of ABF because I know that the ABF injection system is Digifant. I asked some ABF owners, about their opinions about the engine and they say that they had troubles with the fuel injection system when something goes wrong with it. So I know that the KR is with mechanical injection system which is easier for adjustment instead of the electronic. Tell me please if my information is wrong. I try to find the best decision for my project :) "Street assaulter" this is a joke ofcourse.

Thanks again.

Finally I did it

Finally I've put a 1.8 16v KR into my 'beeza. After "few" changes of the brakes and suspension we put the engine. I would like to say that this is expensive hobby, but how we would like to said in BG "The enjoyment have not price" a word for word translation.

Next week we will start the engine.

K-Jetronic

I will use the original K-Jetronic system for fuel supply. It's old technology but I bet on it for now.
