were these a special edition? because all the 1's ive seen on here are purple? are they better then the 2.0 16v? ive become realy interested in them lately

not as much torque as the 2.0 but faster accelating than the 2.0 8v. 130hp - cant argue with that. ive never seen a 1.8 16v that wasnt purple come to think of it.....

not a limited edition, they did a 1.8 16v version before the 2.0 16v ABF, i think it was a year or 2 before the 1997 (post facelift)

it was the one with different bumpers (inter-facelift)

Yeah, it was only available for a shortish while - 95 & 96 model years iirc before being replace by the ABF in 1997.

It was basically the engine out of the MK2 Golf GTI 16v with 9bhp less courtesy of the catalyst.

i had the 1.8 16v and i must say there is a difference and mine was purple

interesting as this was being discussed at my mates unit last night, so are these 1.8 16v engines a complete KR lump from the mk2? so they use the k-jet? or is it a 9a setup? with only a few of the sensors the abf has?

They didnt come in just purple, i used to have a kiwi one.
