Yes, Looking at a 350z.
Time to get a stupid 2 seater whilst I have no mortgage and no children!
I guarantee you however once I do, I'll be back to the Ibiza. No problems with the car at all just fancy a rediculous car whilst I'm young!

Of course, but as far as i know, the engine etc is all the same on the cupra, it just has bigger brakes etc, apparantly brakes which realistically are not required on normal road?

Of course i'd upgrade the brakes on an FR as the standards would probably not be suitable for stopping that much more power once remapped.

As i said, what is the fuel consumption like (for someone with a heavy foot, in my Yaris i see around 35mpg) and whats the ride and road noise like on the motorway?

To be honest, its worth forking out the extra money for a cupra becasue you will find yourself upgrading an fr to cupra spec anyway once you get the taste for things. The cupra is a better base car for modifications as you already have the FMIC and the bigger brakes, plus the overall look of the car is slightly better, more aggresive and interiors are better, but i think these are a matter of taste more than anything as the fr is still a nice car.
My Cupra 180, will get around 28-32 mpg around town and 32-40 on the motorway depending on driving style obviously.

It really is down to budget and how far you want to take things in the future to be honest.

What are you looking to pay for an FR


Essentially what you'll do is upgrade the brakes, Upgrade the FMIC and the hoses.
Cone filter, Re-circulation valve etc.

By the time you've done that you might aswell of bought a Cupra.
No slyness intended to any FR Owners I'm sure they'll agree most are probably running FMIC's!

in fairness, the 2006 on FR is an aggressive looking car and the interior in my opinion is nice too. the pre facelift stuff isn't half as nice.

i agree to a certain extent however when i got my car the cupra comparison was an 05 plate and still over 2k more!! so in all i have done the fmic but i think i have saved a few pennies and got a newer car (facelift rather then and 05 non facelift) but it depends on the prices you see i think??

looking at the fr as a potential car. I've read engine will remap to 190ish is that correct? How would it fair against a 17/82 clio?? What's a rough 0-60 time for a remapped fr? (i know 0-60 means very little)

i was after a clio for a while but decided i want boost so want to know how they would compare. Purely on straight line performance i know the ibiza will never match it handling wise.

do not use more bhp on ebay. They fill your ecu full of codes matey stick with revo etc

Maybe...although the satisfaction of seeing the other drivers face after blowing away ED30 Golfs with the FR badges on is very nice ;) lol

The more I think about this the more I don't know. I really miss my old saxo it was so chuckable it handled like it was on rails and I dunno If perhaps I want a car like that again, my yaris is fun but it's nowhere near my saxo.

I would imagine trying to get 200bhp down through the front wheels is a bit of a nightmare? What's the road noise like on the fr??

FMIC= front mounted intercooler.

Turn up to a garage that has one for sale, take for test drive. Only way you will know. Put it like this though, i would never go back to a nasp 4 cylinder petrol car. All the power right at the top of the rev range and no torque, fast when thrashed to within an inch of there lives. Turbo = a more even spread of power and a **** load more torque.

People buy power, they drive torque... a clever man once said this. :funk:

The Fr is fitted with a SMIC (side mounted Intercooler) as standard, its hidden away behind the drivers fog light, basically when your car draws in air through the intake its filtered (through your air filter) the air will probably be warm-ish if its a hot day, then it flows into the turbo where it is pressurised then into the intercooler, the air loses alot of heat in the intercooler making it more dense (or thicker is another way of putting it, either way it has more oxygen in it) more oxygen rich air = bigger bang at combustion = more power! :) then the air flows into the engine, but the problem with a SMIC is that its not as efficient at cooling the air because its hidden behind the bumper at the side, but a FMIC is nicely positioned right at the front and center of your front bumper making it really good at cooling the air going into your engine!

thats my little explanation! (i think i might have got the turbo and intercooler in the wrong order though? maybe not!!)

Nice cool air is really important if you want to go to stage 2, it can be expensive, a Seat sport intercooler and hoses can be about £350 (not sure somebody correct me if i'm wrong!)
