It's been a long while since I've posted and this has been mainly due to my '03 LC not missing a beat (touch wood). As the title suggests the car has done 105k miles and is still on the original suspension and exhaust.

In the recent MOT one of the exhaust brackets was broken. Thus has been welded but I've been told it won't weld anymore if it snaps again. Also the suspension is feeling a bit crashy (a standard trait but getting worse).

My question is... Is it worth spending £1000+ on an exhaust and suspension with the car having over 100k on the clock?

I've been looking round and I think I'll be going for the Koni FSD & Eibach set-up for the suspension and a Blueflame exhaust, possibly turbo back. The car has stage 1 Revo and I've just done the brakes too.

As always your opinions will be appreciated.

If you don't think its worth that, then why not just replace it with standard items instead? Surely won't be anywhere near that much!

I guess whether its worth it or not depends on what you plan on doing with the car, whether you'll keep it and enjoy it or whether in 6 months you'll want rid of it?

If treated well they will go on and on. Some members on here are on 130k on the standard turbo. Mine is 102k old and is making fantastic power, i treat my car with great care, letting it warm up and cooldown. Services when due ect.

As for standard items I bet the prices will be very near if not actually more than the aftermarket stuff. Especially the suspension.

I will be keeping the car. I can't afford to change it anyway. I too look after the car with warm ups, cool downs and servicing on time. I also get any work done when it needs it and check regularly for errors with vagcom.

Its good to hear that some have gone on for 200k plus. I guess it might well be worth it. The car drives great and still pulls like a train. Can still make me smile :)

Mine is on 108000 and just ha it revo'd and she pulls like a train buddy. O think the warm up and warm down are very important for turbos. As above these engines are strong.

Hi mate, I can't see it coming to 1k+ for suspension and exhaust, if you get a quote for fitting let me know because I can probs beat it.
105k isn't much for VAG engines along as you don't skimp on servicing.

It seems people believe that when cars hit 100.000 miles they are tired and it's time to get rid, the engines in these are very strong, maintenance is the key, things wear out just replace them and keep oil changes regular warm up and down the turbo and she will go on forever, I'm keeping mine for as long as I can, I know every inch of the car, done too much to get rid, I've formed a bit of a bond with it to be honest, and if it didn't have 03 on the number plate you'd think it was a 10 plate both inside and out.

Besides suspension bushes etc it may also be worth considering the money needed at the next clutch change (or slave cylinder failure) - typical price is around 600 for clutch kit, slave cylinder and labour, or anything up to £850 with a LUK flywheel from eurocarparts - going to a main dealer for this will send the bill over a grand...

...but have decided all the above is worth it on my 105k miles LCR and the rest of the car is healthy, for now :)

personally i wouldnt say it would be but by reading everyone elses comments they would all disagree. i always have low milage cars. i normally get rid between 80-90k

It's not all about mileage.... ie the difference between motorway miles where the brakes, clutch etc are hardly used and engine is kept at a pretty constant and lowish rpm vs town miles. I woudnt have thought my lcr would need a new turbo at 67k till it went bang.

yea i agree it depends how to car has been treated. i service ever 6 months but personally i dont do higher milage. i did say everyone else would disagree this is my view

Really!?

A Blueflame turbo back is £700 alone. Suspension (Koni FSD's & Eibach springs) around £500. It soon adds up to well over 1k.

Well after some serious thought I think it is worth it. Although it at 105k I do keep up with servicing and maintaining. The car also does mainly motorway driving with a little spirited driving off the motorway from time to time. The car has never given me any serious trouble other than the usual water pump going and the odd sensor here and there. I've never even had to change a coil pack either.

I have decided that it is worth it so much so that I am now going to be getting an FMIC to compliment my existing and to be added mod (exhaust) and I'll be getting the Revo up'd to stage 2! I might as well enjoy it if I'm keeping it. Right?!
