I've had a search but can't find the answer I need

I've just bought a bluetooth GPS receiver for my PDA. The receiver works if I stick it to the underside of the parcel shelf which is great. The only problem is the battery only lasts for about 20 hours and I can't be bothered taking it out to recharge.

Does anyone know of any way I can take a 12v supply from the boot light or something similar which would only be powered when the ignition is on?

Take a feed from the switched live off the steering column is the best bet - you'll be drawing next to nothing on it so it shouldn't be an issue.

The boot light's no good because it isn't switched from the ignition

thanks for the response. Is there anything I can do from the brake lights? I'd be happy to drive along with my side lights on when I need to charge it!

Would it be easy to run a wire from the steering column to the rear without making it look like a botch job?

Depends how handy you are really - you'd need to remove a certain amount of trim to be able to run the cable tidily.

You could run from the tail lights if you wanted (brakes lights wouldn't be any good - you'd only charge your recevier when braking! :p) as long as, as you said you always drove with side lights on - it would definitely make the wiring easier.

Personally, I'd take the time to put in a feed from the switched live - to save mucking around in the steering column you could splice into the switched live for the stereo - that would be easier
