Battery causes mine to start poorly when warm.

i do lots of short journeys and even though its charging fine it still slowly loses some voltage over time so hot starts gets longer and longer.

Because of this i charge my battery off the car a couple of times a year and as soon as that's done hot starting is not an issue.

Was going to say battery, my old Octavia TDI did this when I bought it, always started perfectly from cold but it would take a while to fire when warm. It was a bit embarrassing at petrol stations!

Turned out that it had the wrong rating of battery on it. New, correct one fitted and it was spot on.

I think the reason it didn't have the problem from cold is because when its cold the glow plugs would work to aid starting and they masked the problem. But when warm, the glow plugs didn't work, thus relying on the battery. Could be all wrong but its my theory!

sounds like a good theory to me fella...new battery has certainly sorted it

Had the same issue before I replaced battery. New battery fitted, starts on the first crank. I also cleaned the earth terminal so that may have helped as well

Hi guys, same issue, fine when cold, tough when warm.

How would you clean the earth terminal? Same method as the ports? Bicarbonate and water or wd40? Can you use wd40 on electrical?
