Anyone driven the 140 BHP Tdi and the petrol FR ?

How much quicker is the petrol FR ?

What mpg can you realistically get from the FR ?

thanks !

Haven't driven the 140 sorry, lots of threads on FR mpg, you can get 50mpg+ but realistically an average of 43-45 ish.
Biggest difference between the 2 is the DPF on the FR so read up on that to help you make a decision.
The diesel FR is only a fraction slower than the petrol FR and certainly doesn't drive like a diesel!
I would imagine the FR is a lot quicker as some are 190+bhp standard but you could always get a 140 and remap it, it wouldn't be much slower then!
I'm sure you will get loads more replies, good luck making your choice!

I think he was asking about a petrol FR Dave

stupid question ?

well I've got a 140 bhp tdi but fancy a petrol - don't do the mileage I used to do and with diesel being so much more...

From Parkers the easiest way to compare

140 TDi
0-60 mph 9.0 s
Power Output 138 bhp
Torque 320 Nm 236 lb-ft
Top Speed 125 mph
MPG 50

Petrol FR
0-60 mph 7.1 s
Power Output 197 bhp
Torque 280 Nm 207 lb-ft
Top Speed 142 mph
MPG 35

Diesel FR
0-60 mph 8.0 s
Power Output 167 bhp
Torque 350 Nm 258 lb-ft
Top Speed 135 mph
MPG 47

So basically your current diesel will feel quicker due to the higher torque figures which is normal when moving through the mid range gears, but drop a gear in the petrol and it will move. Best to test drive them all within a short space of time so you can compare.
For myself apart the sluggishness in first I love the boost you feel witht the diesel FR when in other gears.

I have Driven both the Petrol and the Derv. I would rather have the 140 TDI anyday.
As for the figures from Parkers I thing that they are slighty off.

My Car 140 TDI gets about 48 mpg, 0 to 60 in 7.8 bets off ten runs and worse 9 sec and I have been clocked at over 135 on a private test track.
Every Cars seens to be abit different... No Remap just standard with upgraded Air Filter.
Hope that this helps..

No not a stupid question, I was just still half asleep!

If I were you I would go for the Diesel FR as said above it kicks like a Mule with a wasp up its arse and is as much fun to drive as you want it to be...

Diesel is less than 10% more than petrol at the moment and the very least you will get from the FR TDI is 35mpg on short trips...

And i pity the poor guy that got the only FR TDI thats 167bhp

cheers folks

tested a petrol FR today and a petrol Octavia VRS

very impressed - they are quicker than my 140 Leon - although you wouldn't always know it was 60 bhp down !

Loved the refinement and wider power band - tempted to change it...

its easy mate get the petrol, its awesome and will leave most things standing, on a private road ofcourse ha. i do about 20 miles a day thats all and its fine i dont do much motorway driving if any but when i have been on there with it it pulls all the way through the gears and you can still feel it pulling loads in 6th. if you like driving which you obviously do as your after a hot hatch its got to be petrol everytime. if you do get the 56 plate tho you will have the weak camshft and if you want a remap on it you will need to get that sorted before you put it on, it happend to mine ha.
